INFO BOSS RESTATES THE NEED FOR RECORDS AND ARCHIVES BUREAU IN CRS

The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Barr. (Mrs.) RoseMary Effiom Archibong has restated the need for the establishment of a Records & Archives Bureau in Cross River State.

Mrs. Archibong made this assertion during the Public Hearing on the establishment of Records & Archives Bureau held recently at the mini auditorium of the Cross River State House of Assembly.

According to the Information & Orientation boss: “any state that loses its history is a failed state, hence the establishment of Records & Archives Bureau in the State is a necessity and in line with international standard.”
 RoseMary Archibong
Mrs. Archibong stated that the Bureau which would serve as a comprehensive record-keeping Agency shall custody hard and software historical materials of the State and beyond, as well as generate revenue for Cross River State.

The Commissioner recalled that although the National Council on Information had in 2007 adopted the establishment of Archives by all states of the federation, stated that it was not until 2013 that the erstwhile governor Liyel Imoke created the Department of Archives in the Ministry of Information and Orientation.

“And now, under the proactive leadership of Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade, the need is even greater, following the innovations that abound in the present dispensation. It has therefore become imperative that we custody records for posterity. Cross River State has a very rich history – culturally, in education, sports, political, etc – and a plethora of firsts. So it has become extremely important that these achievements are recorded for reference purposes” Mrs. Archibong added.

She expressed delight and thanked the leadership of the House Committee on Information and ICT in the Cross River State House of Assembly for painstakingly seeing the Bill for the Establishment of Records and Archives Bureau through first and second readings in the hallowed Chambers of the House.

Articulating his views, the Chairman, House Committee on Information & ICT, Hon. Matthew Olori stressed that Archives is a unique institution globally responsible for preserving historical heritage; their current or noncurrent records accumulated by natural process in the course of running the affairs of any kind.

The Legislator said the essence of establishing the Records & Archives Bureau is to ensure comprehensive historical accounts of the State to enable people and generations to come the knowledge of the rich history of the entity called Cross River State.

Hon. Olori also thanked his Vice Chairman, Hon. Effa Esua and members of the House Committee on Information & ICT, the Ministry of Information & Orientation and other stakeholders, whom together have been dogged in the quest for the establishment of Records & Archives Bureau in the State.

The Chairman of the Cross River State Chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade John Ushie, represented by Comrade M. E. Otu expressed happiness for the establishment of the Bureau in the State, noting that without proper documentation, the future generation would be bereft of the rich history of the State.

Representing the Ministry of ICT, Mary Ekanem said the Bureau, when established, will enhance access to quality historical information in the State, while calling for the inclusion of the Ministry of ICT in the Advisory Board of the Bureau.

In an interview with newsmen, the State Director of Archives, Mr. Michael Nyajor commended the Committee for the speedy deliberation on the Bill, pointing out that the establishment of Records & Archives Bureau in the State is one of the laudable initiatives of the Governor Ben Ayade-led administration, which would locate, acquire, preserve and make available for reference, the archival heritage of Cross River State.

The Bill for the establishment of the Records and Archives Bureau has since passed first and second reading; and the public hearing was a prerequisite for its imminent passage into law.

ATIKU REJOIN PDP AND BLAST BUHARI FOR NOT CREATING JOBS IN 2 YEARS

Former Vice President during Obasenjo led administration, Atiku Abubakar has rejoined the opposition Peoples Democratic Party PDP which he helped found some years ago, saying he took the decision after due consultations with party leaders and stakeholders nationwide.

Atiku-Abubakar In a live Facebook chat with Nigerians, Atiku said rather than the promise to create three million jobs annually, no fewer than three million Nigerians have instead lost their jobs in the more than two years of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

“Hello, my name is Atiku Abubakar”, the Wazirin Adamawa had begun. Going further, he said; “I am speaking to you today on Facebook Live as I want to reach as many of our young people as possible as I have an important announcement to make about the future of Nigeria. As it is you, our youths, who represent the future of our nation.
“I have found in my travels across the country that whenever I get into conversations with young people their number one concern is whether they will be able to get a job for without a job they have no means of sustaining themselves or begin a family. And without the security of a job we cannot have security in our country. So without jobs there is no future for you or for Nigeria. “And I also know as a parent that the older generation is also concerned about jobs for their children and, too often today, for themselves as well. “Creating jobs is something I know about as I have created over 50,000 direct jobs and 250,000 indirect jobs in my own State of Adamawa. And I also know how the Government can help create the right environment for businesses to create jobs. When I was Vice President in 1999 I was responsible for liberalizing the telecom's sector which enabled us to increase the number of people who could access a phone from less than 1 million then to over 100 million today.

“This transformation resulted in the creation of hundreds of thousands of new jobs from the top-up card vendors you see on every street corner to the many new businesses that fed off the mobile phone revolution”.
Recalling how he was “elected Vice President under the banner of the PDP, which is the political party I had helped to found some ten years before”, Atiku said he had left the PDP based on principle and the excitement created by the APC’s promise of creating three million jobs annually.
“And some of you may also know that I left the PDP four years ago when I believed it was no longer aligned to the principles of equity, democracy and social justice upon which we had founded it. “I joined the APC as I had hoped it would be the new force that would help improve life for our people and I was excited about the party’s manifesto to create three million new jobs a year. “The result has not been the change people had been promised or voted for, as in the last two years almost three million Nigerians have lost their jobs. “And today with a record 25% of people aged 18-25 unemployed I can see how difficult it is for our youths to find a job.

.PDP has resolved its issues “The key to creating jobs is a strong economy and that is what we are currently lacking. So today I want to let you know that I am returning home to the PDP as the issues that led me to leave it have now been resolved and it is clear that the APC has let the Nigerian people, and especially our young people, down. “But rather than giving a long political speech on this matter I thought it would be more helpful to invite you to ask me questions and share with you my answers”, Atiku ended his speech.

.How  will you tackle Challenges facing the Youth?  Atiku said; “I meet young people every day. I have children and grandchildren and most of my employees are youths. The key to knowing what young people want is to listen to them. I’m good at that. Sometimes when I am on the phone with my kids they ask me are you still there, because I just listen to them without interrupting. Young people are on social media and so I go there. They tell me that their number one challenge is jobs. Terrorism, militancy, kidnapping, and other forms of exuberance they may lead to criminality are a symptom of the disease of joblessness. Once you can get Nigeria working again and get Nigerians working again, youth restiveness will ease and gradually disappear”. On how he intends to focus on leadership while also managing his vast business concerns, the former APC chieftain said leadership must be separated from management.Image may contain: 2 people, people smiling, people sitting

“I lead my businesses. I do not manage them. I have qualified managers managing them including some in their early 20s. As a leader, you provide direction and then you bring in skilled people and inspire them to implement your road-map to getting to the destination of your direction. So in answer to your question, I am more into leadership and this gives me the clarity I need to take in the larger picture”, he said.

When he was asked to react to a recent declaration by the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed that the PDP will not be returning to power anytime soon, the Wazirin Adamawa said only arrogance makes people say such things.

“Nobody knows the future other than God and to dictate what the future will be is not within man’s purview. But it is about Nigeria not about power. Power for power’s own sake breeds arrogance and arrogance makes men say things like that. All I am saying is that we need a party that speaks to national sentiments not regional ones. We need a party that can make all Nigerians one till we can boldly say that we are all brothers and sisters with only one mother Nigeria”, he stated. .Police IG should end Maltreatment of Nigerian On the #EndSARS movement, a social media advocacy that over the weekend sought the scrap of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police for their human rights violations, Atiku said Nigerians cannot be outraged about the inhuman treatment meted to their people in Libya and then go ahead to now maltreat themselves at home. He said; “We cannot be outraged that Nigerians and other African migrants are being mistreated in Libya and then we go ahead and mistreat our people back home. I am very abreast with the #EndSARS issue because my young followers on Social Media keep me very much in the loop. Whether it is how SARS treats Nigerians or how we treat each other, we are sending a message to the outside world. We can’t expect foreigners to treat our people better than we treat them. “We must set the minimum standard required for the treatment of Nigerians worldwide by the way we treat our people domestically. Our charity must begin at home. “On this issue, I call on the Inspector General of Police as a concerned Nigerian to intervene, and I know that the Nigerian Police as a disciplined and well organized force will take action to address this issue. It will go a long way to improving Nigeria’s rating in the global ranking of Police Forces next year because this year, they were wrongfully ranked as the worst.

“Thank you to everyone who asked me a question and I am sorry that time does not permit me to answer all.

PERSONAL INTEREST IS OUR PROBLEM OBOL SUNDAY CONFESS DURING AN INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH AKPAMA.

THE INTERACTIVE SESSIONS

Akpama---- Looking at the problem in our Community, OBOL please i wish to know what is causing peace not to prevail?

Response "The truth is, personal interest ".

Akpama---- Obol can we say it is highly political?

Response "You are not far from the truth".

Akpama----Obol are you sure, the issue will not trigger intra-communal war?

Response "Yes, it might, this is why we need to resolve it now and give peace a chance. Listen, it will have happened but if not for our love for peace and as a good leader, you must always play the King Solomon's famous role on the one-child, two-mothers judgement. We need peace and not destructive agitations. With peace and love development is inevitable".

Akpama-----Obol, on your coronation as a monarch, was there any traditional abberations?

Response  "Not at all, tradition was well followed. I wonder why a section of the community is not ready to see the truth and the truth is that some persons were angry and felt that absconding from their traditional duty is the best way to express their feelings and they had forgotten that the same tradition permit that any Ekor can perform the same coronation  process in the absent of another.
Akpama---- How can we resolve the issues? so that we can give peace a chance.
Response " readiness to say the truth and nothing but the truth".  Document were brought in and was read as an evidence but still many are not comfortable with it.

After the meeting with the Obol Lopon it was done on me to visit one Mr Eno Ikoi under
the concern youths peace process, to get more information.
Hear what he said "the problem of the community is no longer on the monarchs but on the politicians and their quest for domain control.

In finalizing, this is my take:

1.  The major problem of our community, Mkpani is the attitude of some of our political elites and hatred against a section of the community.

2. The second thing I discovered is the struggle for official recognition of who truly is the king or the OBOL LOPON.

3. The struggle for who controls the treasury of our community.

The aforementioned three are the pathogens causing disease in our community.
If our so called politicians needs fame, they should carry out an mindboggling projected that will cause everyone to sing theirs praises not by causing war. Mkpani is an undivided entity and traditionally we can never forsake the norms, beliefs of our forefathers. Until we stop adding traditions with politics the will be no peace. And the chiefs are not suppose in any way be involved in political affairs.

DISHONESTY AND POLITICAL INTEREST IS OUR PROBLEM. SAY NO TO CONFLICT OF INTEREST.........

OBOL/CLAN HEAD LAMENTED DURING AN INTERACTIVE SESSION WITH AKPAMA EMMANUEL

Akpama Emmanuel Sampson is a realist and a son of Mkpani Community from Aduma Clan. On the 18th of November 2017, He met with Detailing Cross River to discuss the way forward on the up coming event that will bring around all sons and daughters of Mkpani community together to discuss the position of Mkpani community comes 2020. Our discussion triggers our meeting with Rt. Hon Eteng Jones Williams in His office at House of Assembly Complex and later Akpama proceeded to Mkpani to see the conflicting Monarchies.

AT THE PALACE OF OBOL ODEN, THE INTRO DURING HIS INTERACTION

 Good evening HRH

My major reason for visiting is to inform you about the upcoming youths programme which is aimed at helping the youth's of Yakurr L.G.A to develop themselves and emerge as leaders, change agent and role models in their various communities and Nation at large. And also to notify you about our plans, to organise a town hall meeting, which all our elites, leaders, political class and traditional rulers will gather and interact with the youth's of our noble community on the issues that had eaten deep into our system and is affecting the youths within and out side the country. The Monarch saw reasons in what i said and commended our effort so far, saying is a developmental calling event that will bring the needed change. The issues triggered him to discussed on the worrisome state of the community, Obol Oden said" as a monarch he has no grudges over anything. That, all he is saying is that tradition must be followed without aberrations and that attempt to reform tradition, is the issue Mkpani is facing but we are blinded by dishonesty.
 Interactions Now
.
Akpama -- OBOL, with all this traditional distractions, are we still sure of adequate development in Mkpani?

In response, Obol Oden said "even in a family, when there is no love, peace and unity amongst the households, it will be difficult for development to set in and that is why we need peace and the only thing that will bring about peace in Mkpani is when our tradition is allowed to be, just the way it was from origin."

Akpama --Obol, what really is the cause of the Mkpani problems.

Response by Obol Oden" one of it is trying to reform our traditions, secondly Personal and Political interest of some elites. And I don't know what they stand to gain and why they are busy fueling this issue".

Akpama -- Please Obol what do you mean? More clarification.

Response "what I meant is clearly written in the wall, the crowning of Obol Sunday didn't follow the traditional norms And politicians, due to hatred of some of their contemporaries from a section of the community had decided to create confusion in the traditional stool. The reasons is still best known to them. He lamented that the Aduma clan had paid their full dues in the development of Mkpani community and as such they should be regarded and given equal opportunities. Am not asking much, no traditional procedures should be deviated due to personal interest and let me draw your attentions to all written petitions on the Aduma clan and the recent one by Dr. Ekor Abam".

Akpama -- what do you think will solve this problem?

Obol replied " only love can solve this problem and truthfulness".

Going through all the responses, from the Obol and Clan Head of Aduma I wish to conclude by saying " let us be prepared to be in the town hall meeting. Truth shall prevail falsehood.
