2019: Obong Of Calabar, Cross River Traditional Rulers Council Endorse Ayade

The 2019 re-election bid of Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade on Monday got another huge boost as the State's traditional rulers' council threw its weight behind him, declaring the state as wholly Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Chairman of the council and Paramount Ruler of Bakassi Local Government Area, Etinyin Etim Okon Edet announced the decision of the council in Calabar, the State capital shortly after Governor Ayade presented certificates and staff of office to two new paramount rulers for Bekwarra and Obanliku Local Government Areas.

Etinyin Edet kick-started the process by reeling out achievements of the Governor Ayade's administration and announced his endorsement.

Following a question by the Bakassi monarch on whether Ayade should be endorsed, there was a unanimous voice vote in affirmation from the hundreds of first and second class chiefs present.

The Obong of Calabar, His Majesty Edidem Abasi Otu V in his remarks, stressed that the order already established for the rotation of the office of governor in the state would be followed as it was binding on all Cross Riverians.

This is even as he insisted that not only has Ayade earned a second term on account of his sterling stewardship but that Cross River is purely a People's Democratic Party (PDP) state.

According to him, "This state is PDP. I am not a politician, but these other people that have defected and are going round trying to look for one thing or the other, they are all PDP members. They can bear any other name but all I know is that they are all PDP members because in this state, we have just this party and it is a family."

Continuing, the highly revered monarch said: "We have an understanding that is binding on every son and daughter of this state. We rotate political offices, we move our governorship position. The way it has been scheduled you cannot come in overnight and say I want it here. No! We are not that crop of people and we are very decisive. Unfortunately, we may be very poor but we have our integrity. We must uphold our integrity; we must not turn this state into something else. It is not where anyone can jump in from anywhere and say they want to so this and do that. That is the orderliness and we must show the world that, that is what we are and that is what we will always be and that is what I will always want to be."

He also lauded Ayade on his foresight in seeking to build the Bakassi Deep Seaport and the superhighway.

He urged the governor to sustain the momentum of industrialization, adding, "We need forward thinking leaders like Ayade, we need to have the superhighway to open up this state or else even if you put all the industries here, where will you carry them to?"

On his part, the Obol Lopon of Ugep, Obol Ofem Ubana said: "The words of our chairman are enough and I support the position concerning the governor's re-election in 2019. Today we ticked you right and we will do so come 2019. Cross Riverians are here, the spirits of the state are here to say you have done well for the last three and a half years. We approve that you should go back."

On why they decided to endorse the governor, he insisted that "when you have a good product to sell, you don't labour to advertise it. Governor Ayade is a good product. Let me borrow the words of our chairman where he said that you are our revelation. You have revealed to Cross River State that things that we thought were impossible are possible with good thinking."

Also, Africa's longest serving monarch and paramount ruler of Obudu, Uti J.D Agba in his remarks pointed out that the Governor had been active in rebuilding the economy of the State and contrary to opinions held by some, "he is doing it and that is why it is enough reason for us to appreciate his effort and I am happy that there is nobody who is going to be disappointed."

In his response, Governor Ayade commended the monarchs for living above board and explained the reason why he had expanded government while industrialising the state to create jobs for the over 6,000 Cross Riverians who graduate every year.

"It was because I came with a roadmap, I came with a direction; I knew where I was going. If you are producing 6,000 graduates every year and there is no job for them, you are inviting crime to your doorstep, you are inviting cataclysm, No matter what, in spite of your rural road problems, you have to create jobs for those younger people, we have to industrialise, the deep seaport has to work, the superhighway has to work – that is our core business."

He charged the monarchs to look into issues of governance and support the government to ensure the delivery of democratic dividends.

"You are paramount rulers, you are the custodians of our culture and our heritage. In fact, now you are the spiritual fathers, have you asked why the superhighway is not on construction phase? Our own brothers and sister joined hands with foreigners, joined hands with other people from other parts of the country who do not want us to have this deep seaport to write petitions against the deep seaport, to write petitions against the superhighway and reduced all of these things to APC and PDP politics.

"How can you play politics with the life of a people, with the development of a people, with the future of our young men and women? How can that be politics? You as paramount rulers, you as the custodians of our culture, you are the people who hold the afro-centric philosophy of our afro-politan theory that you must always provide a shoulder for a brother to lean on and that we must aggregate and come together in the African spirit of communalism.

CROSS RIVER YOUTH SET TO CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS WITH THE GOVERNOR!!!

As he changes the narratives of governance in Cross River State, may history be fair to our most youth friendly and digital governor, SEN. PROF. BEN AYADE. He has successfully anchored and transformed the state from what it used to be (just a civil servants' state) to an industrialized and economically viable state thereby bringing it into global reckoning within a short period of his first tenure.

He has also shown to be the BEST YOUTH GOVERNOR EVER IN THE HISTORY OF CROSS RIVER STATE by breaking even......of youth massive involvement in governance as evidenced in his numerous, massive and unprecedented appointment/employment of youth and also provision of easy access to funds for young entrepreneurs to grow and develop small and medium enterprises in the state aimed at activating Wealth Creation. All these has brought a lot of impartation in the lives of youth and its environs.

Therefore, the entire youth of the state are set to celebrate 2018 CHRISTMAS with the GOVERNOR as a show of appreciation and to unite together to give His Excellency BLOCK VOTES Come 2019 with a view of sustaining the former; for a greater youth economic/political emancipation and for the growth and development of the state at large.

Wanni Enang to Governor Ayade: Obubra L.G.A has been marginalized in your Government

As 2019 general elections gathers momentum in Cross River State and Nigeria at large, a social media cum political analyst Wanni Enang has predicted Obubra Local Government Area likely voting patterns to the Digital Gov. Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade.

Excerpts

Time and deliberate mindfulness not to dissipate energy throwing water on the back of a duck are the two ultimate reasons why I won't engage in the luxury of offering background analysis, or provide a preamble to this write-up. I'll rather deal with the kernel straight up.

These are the likely factors may determine how Obubra Local Government Area will vote in 2019...

1. APPOINTMENTS:
Gov. Ben Ayade's appointments, whether statutory or non statutory have Not favoured the Obubra people. Perhaps not every one of you have forgotten the wailing and Lamentations that followed the release of  appointment into Gov Ayade's executive council, it was only Obubra, despite it's mass and demography that had only one  nominee as Commissioner. There won't have been a more demeaning affront and continued "look-man-foolish" on the Obubra people. This deliberate act left an indelible scare on the hearts of the political class.

As I speak with you, while neighbouring LGA's with a smaller voting population are carting away over two hundred, some over three hundred, some close to that appointments, Obubra, with way over One Hundred Thousand (100,000+) votes, with consistent and unwavering loyalty to PDP have less than Seventy less than 95 appointments. What can be more demoralizing?? The breakdown of appointments in Central Senatorial District are as follows;
1. Abi (the smallest of them all)= 104
2. Etung (2nd least) = 308
3. Ikom = 289
4. Yakurr = 199
5. Boki = 209
6. Obubra = 89

It's election eve and there is so much disenchantment and discontentment amongst especially, the young, ebullient, versatile and corrosive youthful population that constitutes the energies with which we approach and prosecute every election.

2. PROJECTS:
While I surmon the moral courage to thank the Governor for donating a pontoon(which is about the only thing the governor has done for us) to service a small percentage of the riverine community(because it is not all the riverine communities the pontoon services), I'll like to equally remind him that his deliberate refusal to commence a single project in Obubra may likely be an albatross on his elections.

Permit me to quickly remind you that sometime mid 2018, the Obubra people were decieved with a "Yellow Maize Farm/Feed Mill" project to be cited in Ochon community. The proposed site for this project was to be an area of Land being managed by government, were villagers mostly women carry out early planting of crops like Yams, cassava, maize, groundnut, Mellon etc. These crops are usually planted around December/January/February, so that by July/ they'll have harvested even the yams.

In June of 2018, the governor went for groundbreaking in his usual pomp. Obubra women and men were force to prematurely harvest their crops amidst tears and pleas for a little more time of about a month or two, that fell on deaf ears of government agents. With tears of pain and frustration, they watched their farms being bulldozed by heavy earth moving equipment.
It was a pathetic sight to behold, the pain was unimaginable, all in the name of government project.

Ladies and gentlemen, as I write this article, that place has turn a forest, with no sign of intention of citting a project in there. Those are the electorates we are going to face. Those are the people we are going to campaign and solicit for votes from, of course, your guess of what the results will be, is as good as mind.

3. CONTRACTS:
It is compound knowledge that this government have been awarding contracts, especially in MDA's like SUBEB etc in various LGA's across the state. This has been an avenue of patronizing and pacifying selected  stakeholders.

In some instances, in some local governments, 2,3 or four stakeholders, or leaders are brought together and given a contract job to execute, so that at the end of the day, they could share the profits therefrom. This has never happened in Obubra. Our leaders are mumuring and silently complaining bitterly. But the dangerous aspect of it is that, they are not speaking out, for obvious reasons..

4. SECURITY:
This is a very crucial and painful emotion laden, yet precarious issue we have had to grapple with, recently. Obubra has untill a few weeks ago been plaque with incessant communal and inter-state wars, especially between the Osopong l & ll people in Obubra l state Constituency and our Izzi neighbours of Ebonyi state on the one hand, the Iyamitet/Ababene both in Obubra ll State Constituency and the Onyadama in Obubra and Inyima/ Nko communities of Yakurr LGA's.

In none of these occasions of avoidable clashes has the governors intervention come on time, if at all it will, talkless of any deliberate action by government to address the immediate and remote causes of these conflicts to forestall further reoccurrences.

There was once, after a catastrophic invasion of the Izzi people on the Osopong people of Obubra, the governor sent in Aid to the internally displaced people( which I sincerely thank and commend him) and that was all. As I speak, there is no adequate security measure to protect the Cross River Boundary in that axis, hence, the continuous  reoccurrence of war in this area. Our men are still taking turns to sleep in the forest to protect their communities.

Now, this is how serially Obubra is neglected. A couple of days ago, the governor had a presidential commendation for his quick intervention into the Biase communal clash, are they superior humans than the Obubra people?? The question we are now trying to figure answers to is, "At what point had we been made a lesser or no heir to the Cross River patrimony"??? Why has successive governments been in a haste to show us so much disdain, disregard and disrespect????

Conclusively, as a loyal party man who is committed to the success of  the party, I thought  it was imperative to bring these issues to the fore, because I believe if properly and promptly address, will brighten the chances of our beloved party in the fourth coming elections.

The Ayade’s Model of healthcare delivery: A VERITABLE TOOL FOR ACHIEVING UNIVERSSAL HEALTH COVERAGE IN NIGERIA.

Primary Health care workers across the state have been engaged in very intensive training over the last to three weeks and this is targeted at improving the quality of health services delivered at Primary health centers across the state. This training and retraining is expected to build capacity of Primary health care workers to manage minor illnesses at Primary Level, improve the quality of care, ensure health worker and client safety, attitude of health workers to service amongst other

These are strongs steps to usher in the dawn of a new era in the healthcare sector. In the last three and half years, the Cross River State healthcare system has witnessed a massive revitalization, rehabilitation and upgrading, especially the primary healthcare system– being previously the weakest link at the grassroots! As the state prepares to achieve a universal healthcare coverage, funds have been sunk in training and retraining of healthcare workers who are the manpower behind any success intended to be achieved.

Recently, primary healthcare workers were being trained at Odukpani LGA on routine immunization. Same is the case with other healthcare workers across the 18 LGAs in the state. This is aimed at developing and building their capacity for optimum results in consolidating the vision of the Governor to make health care accessible and of great quality for all.

More so, the recent approval given by His Excellency to employ 1000 health workers would equally boosts our healthcare system in the state. This has a direct impact on the mission to achieve a universal healthcare coverage. This has equally helped in strengthening the fight against communicable  diseases especially at border communities where surveillance is  scaled up
more extensively in the case of HIV and AIDS, Tetanus, measles, Yellow fever,Monkey Pox etc. Multi-pronged approaches for health workforce development, such as task shifting, training and retention efforts, have led to progress towards universal coverage.

Approaches such as comprehensive strengthening of health workforce, and scaling up
workforce production for the continuum of maternal, newborn and child health care are
options for working towards population-specific universal coverage.

Governor Ayade represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ivara Esu cutting the tape to flag off the third Carnival Dry Run in Calabar, Sunday.

The Cross River Government has invited all the Presidential candidates of political parties contesting in the 2019 general elections to take a week-long vacation from campaigns and participate in the annual event scheduled for Dec. 28.

The State governor, Professor Ben Ayade disclosed this on Sunday in Calabar while flagging off the third and last dry run of the 2018 Calabar carnival which has the theme `Africanism'.

Represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ivara Esu, Ayade said that the carnival has no political or religious affiliation, adding the show was open to all.

"This is the final dry-run and the event is looking as if today is the grand finale. This shows that our first and second dry run was successful.

"I want to use this opportunity, on behalf of the state governor to invite all the candidates of various political parties to come for this year's carnival.

"We want them to take off one week rest from their campaigns and come and enjoy themselves. Carnival Calabar does not know any political party or religion.

"When you come to Calabar for the carnival, you are as free as air. I will like to invite them to come here and relax and as the people see them, maybe those who are able to dance better may attract more votes.

"So, we want to see the candidates who can come here and rock it better, in such a way some people may be encouraged to vote for them,'' he said.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Calabar Carnival Commission, Mr Gabe Onah, said that the carnival has become the melting pot of Africa's hospitality.

Onah said that the `wonders on wheels' had earlier had their dry-run where over 200 bikers participated.

He said that the state had sustained the hosting of the largest street party in Africa for a record 14 years, adding that it has promoted the talents of budding artists and has equally united the people of Cross River and Nigeria at large.

The Chairman said that the five competing carnival bands and others were designed to tell the African story from the African perspective.

He commended DSTV and MTN Nigeria for their partnership and support for the carnival over the years.

The President of Federation of Tourism Association, Alhaji Sabo Saleh, said that the association was in the state to underscore and study the carnival with a view to find areas of partnership and support.

Saleh said that tourism plays an important role in the economy of any nation or state, adding that the association under his leadership would continue to support Calabar carnival because Cross River has placed Nigeria's tourism on the world global map.

"This is one of the biggest events that is coming out of Africa and it is sponsored by the Cross River Government.

"They are doing this to support the local people because tourism is multi-faceted and this helps the local economy to grow.
