Rt. Hon. Eteng Jones Chief Guest at Debate Competition
Today being 9thFebruary 2019 Elder Ofem Memorial Secondary School Mkpani organized a debate competition titled” ALL PEACE ARE GOOD AND ALL WAR ARE BAD”, at the school hall. The debate was supposed to be between Presbyterian Secondary Grammar School Mkpani and Elder Ofem Memorial Secondary School but Presbyterian School were unable to show up. And the male and female of Elder Ofem Memorial Secondary school had to compete.
The debate had the following students proposing the motion
1. Agatha obeten.
2. Wofia Okpa Edet
3. Blessing Eteng James.
While on the Opposing side we had
1. Etim Ekpe Osam.
2. Benedict Vincent Eteng
3. Chinosu Laural Eteng.
Rt. Hon. Eteng Jones William which is the special guest at the programme was highly represented by Sir. Butum Inah, Director CTRA Cross River State, Calabar. Among the guests was Sir. Ubi Williams Personal Assistant to Rt. Hon. Eteng Jones, moderator of the debate Pastor Sampson Noanowo.
The chief guest, in his speech congratulated the school for coming up with such debate topic in this critical time in our nation. He thank the principal and staff for putting in their efforts and opined that the debate competition would be considered as a remarkable step to make the students a skilled debaters.
Rt. Hon. Also encouraged the students to focus on education as the only route that would lead to a true opening of the mind and spirit.
Replying to Rt. Hon. Eteng Speech, one of the teachers Sir Celestine Ofem thank Rt. Hon. Eteng for always identifying with any group or body in YakurrII constituency and also that the school is aware of many students from the school that had benefitted from Rt. Hon. Eteng Jones scholarship scheme in YakurrII. And also appealing that even though the school is a private school, Rt. Hon. Should be able to come in and support in equipping the school lab, support the school building which is ongoing, sponsor more fatherless and motherless in school, encourage more debates and quiz in YakurrII and help in building the school toilet.
Sir. Butum Inah also in his reply said all will be communicated to Rt. Hon. Eteng Jones Williams and that the Hon. cannot come without dropping something for the school to start with. And he presented an envelope containing some cash to the Bursar of the school.
In conclusion the female students won with 236 points against the male that scored 172 points.
