Cross River State Government has expressed commitment towards improving the welfare of members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) sent to the State.
The State Governor, Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade, who was represented by the Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams, made this known during the closing ceremony of 2019 Batch B, Stream 1 Orientation Course for Corps Members held recently at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Obubra, Cross River State.
Governor Ayade disclosed that he has approved the review of the allowance paid to Corps Members in Cross River and further directed the Ministry of Finance to work out a plan for immediate implementation.
The Governor stated that his administration is not ignorant of the challenges faced during the orientation course and other issues that have been raised concerning the welfare of Corps Members.
"I am directing the Ministry of Works to immediately survey the entire orientation camp and bring up to me the renovation needs to be carried out in camp," Gov. Ayade ordered.
Congratulating and welcoming the Corps Members to 'People's Paradise' (Cross River State), the State number one citizen challenged Corps Members to make the most service year and leave imprints as they contribute in the development of the State and nation at large.
On posting of Corps Members, the Governor said: "we encourage the posting of Corps Members to rural areas where their services are most needed as our people are largely agrarian and dwell in communities outside urban settlements. In this regard, we expect most of the corps members to accept their posting in good fate."
Dignitaries present includes; The Leader of CRSHA, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, the Head of Local Government Administration, Obubra, Chief Barry Inyang, State Coordinator of NYSC, Staff of NYSC, retired NYSC directors, representatives of military and para-military organizations, among others.
