Asuquo Ekpenyong Jr, the Cross River State Commissioner of Finance, said while the State “might see bumps along the way,” he was encouraged that the State might be “turning a corner” in fighting the spread of the virus and being the only state not to record a case.
“I have cautious optimism, but now is the time to stay the course,” he told reporters at the Commissioning of 100 bed isolation centre in Adiabo, Western Calabar on Friday.
According to him, Cross River’s approach in invoking early, restrictive shutdown measures has been widely praised as one of the reason no case is recorded.
He noted that weeks into the lockout the response team warned against complacency on safety protocols such as the “No Mask No Movement” policy of the State Government.
The Commissioner who doubles as Secretary of the State Covid-19 Response Taskforce commended CACOVID for their technical support and initiative which according to him, was a great boost to the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic disease in the state.
The commissioner called on the residents of the state to complement what the government and CACOIVD are doing, by ensuring that they comply with all the directives given to curtail Spread of the disease.
