PINK MONTH: EARLY DETECTION, KEY TO CURE!!! -------DR. LINDA AYADE

Cross River state First Lady, Her Excellency Dr. Linda Ayade ably represented by the Director General Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu led the Cross River state chapter of Medical Women Association on a Cancer Awareness Walk in Calabar metropolis to observe the pink month.

Speaking on behalf of Her Excellency, Dr. Betta Edu said this pink month is a period where strong voices world over are creating awareness on cancer. "it is very obvious that about 14 million people died of cancer every year and this is worrisome" and this is why we would preach the message to all our young girls and women to  examine their breasts regularly (monthly) and do their cervical Pap smear yearly. It doesn't take much time to carry out self breast examination. By this we can detect cancer early and cure it, saving more lives. Dr. Edu further advises members of the public to always go for cancer screening at Medical women well clinic at Moore Road Calabar to prevent mortality from cancer.

It is a call to every body in the society to join the fight against cancer. It can affect anybody whether man or woman. High alcoholic intake and smoking increase the risk of cancer especially lung and prostrate cancer in men.

The DG advises the public to consume less of can food processed food and things stored in plastics as the contain oxidant that could make normal cells go cancerous.

The DG on behalf of the wife of the Executive Governor, Her Excellency, Dr Linda Ayade specially thanked strong women of the Women Medical Association, young children and everyone that participated in the Cancer awareness street walk. More than 1000 women were reached with information about cancer on streets and at market place!
