ROTARY FAMILY HEALTH DAYS 2018: DR. BETTA EDU SUES FOR CONTINOUS SUPPORT TO END POLIO IN NIGERIA
Rotarians for Family Health and AIDS prevention in collaboration with Rotary Clubs and Districts in Nigeria, other West African countries, Ministries of Health, Primary health Agencies, Private sector and NGOs have set aside three days for free health services to members of the public to commemorate this year's Rotary Family Health Days.
Flagging off the exercise, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Inyang Asibong said Rotary has been very supportive to the state especially as it concerns ending poliomyelitis in the state and Nigeria at large. Dr. Asibong said, she Rotary Family Health Days was new to her but she is happy that Rotary is committed to serving humanity.
On behalf of the state government, Dr Inyang Asibong thanked Rotary International and their partners for this voluntary service to Cross riverians, especially residents of calabar south and municipal.
Earlier Speaking, the Director General, Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu thanked Rotarians for supporting Cross River especially in the fight to end polio in Cross River state, Nigeria at large and all over the world. Dr. Edu applauded Rotary International for a great and awesome job done so far in service to humanity.
Optimistic of Nigeria being certified a polio free, Dr.Betta Edu said in couple of months to come, Nigeria should get its certification of polio free nation and pray that there should be no outbreak again in any part of the country especially the northern states.
The DG lauded Rotary International and other partnering agencies over their massive support to reach over 500 families with treatment for diabetes, malaria, high blood pressure and many other illnesses noting that their support would strengthen the Primary health system as well as mobilize more client from communities to PHC facilities.
She also applauded Mayne Avenue PHC staff for their diligence and commitment in delivering quality healthcare to the members of the host community. She said, she is always surprised seeing multitudes of women attending ANC in the facility and she don't know what the in charge and other staff does to motivate and attract such crowd during health outreaches, ANC days.
"I am happy that Rotary is coming to support you with what you are doing and with this, in the next three days, your data would improve; more women and families would be reached, more people would be treated for malaria, diabetes, hypertension, etc in addition to free family planning.
She therefore call on Rotary International to continue to support the government of His Excellency Senator (Prof) Ben Ayade as he delivers healthcare to Cross riverians.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of Rotarians for Family Health and AIDS Prevention, Dr. Tony Onyia said, the essence of the exercise was to complement government's efforts towards sustainable and quality healthcare services.
Dr. Tony Onyia thanked the Cross River State government for the support they have received especially free donation of drugs, Long Lasting Insecticide treated Nets, amongst others.
The exercise is expected to last till 20th October, 2018 and all medical professionals have been brought to offer free medical services ranging from HIV testing and counselling, Hepatitis, Diabetes, Hypertension, Tuberculosis, Malaria, etc. to members of the public.
The assistant Governor of Rotary 9142 District, Rotarian Dr. Regina Udobong who earlier welcomed all visitors and Rotarians said the exercise is absolutely free ensuring everyone get best services and attention during this period is their utmost priority.
