By Kingsley Agim

The people of Akpabuyo Local Government Area have re-assured Governor Ben Ayade and indeed other candidates of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) of their unflinching solidarity ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

This reassurance was made in a town hall meeting organized by the PDP political leadership of Akpabuyo, held at the Local Government Council Headquarters, Ikot Nakanda, Akpabuyo.

Speaking in an earlier meeting with the traditional rulers, spokesperson to the Royal Fathers and Village Head of Esuk Mba, Chief Effiom Edem Duke said as custodians of the land, they have unanimously endorsed Governor Ben Ayade's second term bid and hoped that he continues with his visionary leadership till 20123.

Chief Duke thanked the Governor for achieving such lofty strides for the State and enjoined him to complete the ongoing projects in the area when he returns to the Peregrino House in May, 2019.

Speaking to newsmen later, Mr. Charles Effiom described Akpabuyo as a PDP Local Government Area and assured Government Ayade that the people will deliver the party 100 percent starting from the presidential, gubernatorial, down to the House of Assembly elections.

Mr. Effiom said the massive turnout of people to the event is a testament of the great support the Akpabuyo people have for Governor Ayade, pointing out that they are all ready for the elections coming up in a few weeks from now.

Also speaking on behalf of the Widows Support Group for Ayade, Rev. (Mrs.) Grace Ekanem said the meeting has help to re-awaken the conscious of the widows towards the forthcoming elections.

She described Senator Ayade as a "widow-friendly governor, who has given the widows in the State a new lease of life through employment of the garment factory and a host of other impactful programmes, adding that the widows in the area will vote en masse for Governor Ayade.
Another prominent son of Akpabuyo and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Comrade Efiong Ita Umoh, said it is reassuring to know how every facet of Akpabuyo is rooting for Ben Ayade and the PDP.

In his views, the Commissioner for Social Housing, Mr. Effiom Okokon noted that the fact that Akpabuyo people have affirmed their support for Ayade and the PDP makes it a lot easier, maintaining that such affirmations speak loudly about the result-oriented leadership of the Ayade-led administration.

Another speaker and Member Representing Akpabuyo in the State House of Assembly, Lady Elizabeth Ironbar, described the event as "a perfect successful meeting," which reveals that the people are in tune with what is happening in government.

The legislator, who is seeking for another term in office, said the people are happy with what the governor has done within the period of three years and have given their word that Akpabuyo is for PDP.

Summarizing the essence of the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Archibong remarked that the convergence of traditional rulers, elders, men, women, widows, kith and kin of Akpabuyo, lends credence to the fact that if one term of the Ayade-led administration is this good, then it deserves another.

Mrs. Archibong averred that though Akpabuyo is for Ayade and the PDP, they are following the electioneering process to the latter, to ensure that Governor Ayade is returned in office on May 29, 2019.

She emphasised on the necessity of polling unit  management and vigilance before, during and after voting.

One of the applicants who spoke with one of our staff said, she was very happy with the online application procedures. She further stated that, the simple nature of the application makes it easier for them.

In another similar development, another applicant from Abi said the exercise is one of the best recruitment exercise he has ever seen. "There is nothing like the portal crashed, everything is smooth sailing, no wonder the DG took her time to ensure everything is perfect before launching out the portal. God will bless her"

It would be recalled that the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Director General, Dr. Betta Edu had officially on the 1st of January, 2019 at noon, launched the recruitment portal where she also made a press release warning prospective applicants to be wary of fraudsters who poses as recruitment agents in guise of collecting monies to process their applications.

She further stated that anyone who gives money to anyone be it staff of the agency, does so at his own risk. Saying that, the application is strictly free and it is online.

Only successful applicants would be invited for examination and interview.
A review of the exercise reveals that over 5000 applicants have so far applied against 1000 slots across the state.

MOI&O PAYS TRIBUTE TO RETIRING TECHNOCRAT

By Kingsley Agim/Glory Etim

The Management and Staff of the Ministry of Information and Orientation have paid tribute to their former Permanent Secretary, Mr. Freedom Ejom, who is set to wrap up his career in the Cross River State Civil Service on 15th January, 2019.

The event which held in the Conference Room of the Ministry of Information and Orientation, was one in a series of thank-you visits by the retiring technocrat to places he had stints with during his stellar career, and was well attended by his colleagues in the College of Permanent Secretaries, friends and well-wishers.

Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Archibong, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Aye Henshaw, described Mr. Freedom Ejom as "a leading light who shone bright and, through hard work, worked his way, as the first in the Journalism Profession, to the pinnacle of the service as Permanent Secretary."

"Today, we are having the singular pleasure to say goodbye and thanks to you, our retiring Permanent Secretary, for your meritorious service to the State and Nation," Mr. Henshaw remarked.

Mr. Henshaw, who succeeded the retiring Ejom at the Ministry of Information and Orientation, reminisced nostalgically on their journey which began in 1988 at the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation (CRBC), pointing out that Mr. Ejom's story is an inspiration to the journalism profession and the civil/public service in general.

He further stated that the retiring officer's meteoric rise to the zenith did not come as a fluke or through god-fatherism, but through hard work and penchant for excellence, citing his emergence as the Editor-in-Chief of the nationally acclaimed MOFINEWS Magazine and later rising to the position of the Permanent Secretary, as testaments to Ejom's repertoire.

Mr. Henshaw advised the younger generation not to despise the days of little beginning, saying "wherever you find yourself, do your job diligently; for at the appointed time, reward will come."

He wished the retiring, but not tired, Permanent Secretary well in his future endeavours and charged him to continue impacting positively on humanity, even as he calls time to a sterling career.

In his remarks, the retiring Permanent Secretary, Mr. Freedom Ejom, said the essence of the gathering was to thank the Ministry, where he started his job as the Permanent Secretary, for their support and prayers.
He thanked God for breaking the glass-ceiling situation that bedeviled the Information sector in the service, beginning with him; and prided in the number of Permanents Secretaries the Ministry of Information has gone ahead to produce so far.

He encouraged staff of the Ministry to continue to work hard and show the highest level of commitment like the type he experienced during his stint with the Ministry, while praying God's blessing upon all.

In a goodwill message, the Provost of the College of Permanent Secretaries, Mr. Ugbang Akwaji, wished Mr. Ejom well in his retirement and urged those still in service to work hard in order to be remembered and celebrated too.

He charged the Ministry of Information to continue with the job of propagating the giant strides of the Ayade-led administration and living up to it mandate of projecting the government in positive light.

Other goodwill messages came notably from the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power Mr. Denis Utang and his Solid Minerals counterpart, Mrs. Mary Akpet, among others.

ARCHIBONG WARNS JOURNALISTS AGAINST FAKE NEWS, HATE SPEECH

By Kingsley Agim

Cross River State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Archibong has cautioned journalists and media outlets in the State against fake news/hate speech and anything that would incite chaos, especially at this critical period of the nation's democracy.

Mrs. Archibong gave this warning during a recent roundtable with media executives and representatives in the State at Calas Vegas, the latest tourism spot in Calabar.

Ahead of the forthcoming general elections in Nigeria, the Information and Orientation Boss enjoined journalists to continue in their roles of setting agenda, contributing to the electoral process and being the only hope of the masses.

"It is out of hatred that you see black and call it white. We do not need to indulge in false reporting. We do not need to colour what we see. It is unethical in journalism. As journalists, you must not succumb to the pressure of self-seeking politicians," she remarked.

Mrs. Archibong also stated that the Governor Ben Ayade-led administration's investment opportunities, industrialization strides and tourism enhancement are palpably visible across the State, while urging media practitioners to effectively publicize such lofty achievements.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Culture and tourism, Mr. Eric Anderson commended Mrs. Archibong for bringing the pantheon of media executives and practitioners to the latest tourism spot in the State to interact and chart a course for the noble profession.

He said Calas Vegas, which had already received more than 1500 guests, is the Governor's brainchild aimed at expanding the tourism frontiers of the State.

Another speaker, the Commissioner for Sustainable Development and Social Welfare, Mr. Oliver Orok, commended the wisdom of his Information and Orientation counterpart in bringing her constituents to the spot (Calas Vegas), pointing out that with journalists having a firsthand experience of the tourism destination, the perception of Calas Vegas as a façade will be eroded.

Articulating his views, the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, Cross River State Council, Mr. Victor Udu, said the roundtable will spur journalists to work with the government and continue present the State in a positive light ahead of the New Year.

Heads and representatives of the various media in the State, who thanked the Ayade-led administration for the press freedom accorded them in Cross River State, also lauded the Commissioner for Information and Orientation for her media-friendly disposition, while arriving at a consensus to support government and contribute to the development of society.
