Cross River state governor, Prof. Ben Ayade has thrown a challenge to all the presidential candidates in the forth coming 2019 elections to take time off their busy campaigns and join in the December Calabar Carnival.

The governor who is seeking a second term in office said the carnival will be devoid of politics but noted that when the candidates come those who are able to dance better may attract more votes in the election,

"We want them to take off one week rest from their campaigns and come and enjoy themselves. Carnival Calabar does not know any political party or religion.

"When you come to Calabar for the carnival, you are as free as air. I will like to invite them to come here and relax and as the people see them, maybe those who are able to dance better may attract more votes.

"So, we want to see the candidates who can come here and rock it better, in such a way some people may be encouraged to vote for them,'' he said.

Ayade disclosed this on Sunday in Calabar while flagging off the third and last dry run of the 2018 Calabar carnival which has the theme `Africanism'.

Represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ivara Esu, Ayade said that the carnival has no political or religious affiliation, adding the show was open to all.

"This is the final dry-run and the event is looking as if today is the grand finale. This shows that our first and second dry run was successful.

"I want to use this opportunity, on behalf of the state governor to invite all the candidates of various political parties to come for this year's carnival.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Calabar Carnival Commission, Mr Gabe Onah, said that the carnival has become the melting pot of Africa's hospitality.

Onah disclosed that the `wonders on wheels' had earlier had their dry-run where over 200 bikers participated.

According to him, the state had sustained the hosting of the largest street party in Africa for a record 14 years, adding that it has promoted the talents of budding artists and has equally united the people of Cross River and Nigeria at large.

The Chairman said that the five competing carnival bands and others were designed to tell the African story from the African perspective.

He commended DSTV and MTN Nigeria for their partnership and support for the carnival over the years.

The President of Federation of Tourism Association, Alhaji Sabo Saleh, in his remarks said that the association was in the state to underscore and study the carnival with a view to find areas of partnership and support.

Saleh said that tourism plays an important role in the economy of any nation or state, adding that the association under his leadership would continue to support Calabar carnival because Cross River has placed Nigeria's tourism on the world global map.

"This is one of the biggest events that is coming out of Africa and it is sponsored by the Cross River Government.

"They are doing this to support the local people because tourism is multi-faceted and this helps the local economy to grow".

CHANNEL YOUR ENERGIES ON MEANINGFUL CAUSES; LINDA AYADE CHARGES YOUTHS

By Kingsley Agim

The wife of the Governor of Cross River State, Dr. (Mrs.) Linda Ayade has charged youths of the State, nay Nigeria, to contribute meaningfully to the nation's political debate and channel their energies to causes that would engender societal development.

Dr. Ayade gave the charge when speaking at the inauguration of Chapter Executives of Cross River Youths for Ayade and Atiku (CRYFAA) Campaign Group, held 6th November, 2018 at College of Health Technology, Calabar.

Continuing, the First Lady said instead of exhibiting vainglory on social media, it is important that youths take advantage of the vast reach of the social media to lend their voices on critical issues affecting the nation in a bid to effect the desired change.

Congratulating the newly-inaugurated Chapter Executives of CRYFAA, Dr. Ayade enjoined them to get to the nooks and crannies of the State in sensitizing the people on the exercise of their franchise, and more importantly, voting rightly.

The First Lady, who described youths as the trustees of posterity, further remarked that rather than grousing about poor performances and fallibilities of people in power, they (youths) must begin to use their voting power as a critical mass in selecting the right leaders.

In a goodwill message, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation and Member CRYFAA Board of Trustee, Mrs. RoseMary Effiom Archibong, applauded the vision, adding that in politics, energetic, wise, focused and dynamic youths are needed to galvanize the change from the quagmire bedeviling the nation.
Mrs. Archibong further asserted that Ayade and Atiku are both tested, proven and deserve the support of the youths, adding that these two men have been divinely positioned to take the State and Nation to the pedestal dreamt of.

The Commissioner congratulated the new Executives and all other youths who came to aggregate wisdom, ideas and energy that Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade is coming back as Governor and Atiku Abubakar coming on board as President of Nigeria.

In another goodwill message, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Tina Banku Agbor lauded CRYFAA for coming together in solidarity for the return of Governor Ben Ayade back to the Government House  and the emergence of Atiku Abubakar as President respectively in 2019.

The SSG said the governor's unprecedented track record and achievements in three-and-a-half years, evidently visible across the State, stand him in good stead to be returned to the Peregrino House.

Earlier in his address, the Director-General of CRYFAA, Comrade Esuong Uwase, stated that the combination of Prof. Ben Ayade and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will plunge the State and Nation back to economic prosperity, adding that the emergence of CRYFAA is both timely and a step in the right direction.

Comrade Uwase said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has produced candidates in Ayade and Atiku, who are replete with the wherewithal to govern us at State and Federal levels, describing them as compelling choices for Cross River State and Nigeria.

The event also featured a novelty football match and presentation of certificates to the newly sworn-in Chapter Executives.

GOV AYADE IS DOING A LOT THAT REQUIRES DISSEMINATION, ARCHIBONG TELLS MEDIA

By Kingsley Agim

Cross River State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Archibong has told media establishments in the State that the Ayade-led administration is ladened with people-oriented programmes, projects and achievements that should be disseminated to the public.

Mrs. Archibong made this assertion when she received the Management of Correct FM on a courtesy call recently in the Conference Room of her Ministry in Calabar.

The Information and Orientation boss quipped that with the giant industrialization strides and digital agricultural revolution programmes of the Ayade-led government, which have made the State a reference point and beacon of industrialization in the comity of Nigerian states; it is pertinent that the media play its role of getting the masses abreast with the goings on in the society.

The Commissioner, who expressed delight at the recent emergence of more media outfits in the State, maintained that such development stems from the premise that there is a lot the government of the State is doing and other happenings that are to be disseminated.

"There is so much people must know. Governance and government is not limited to a certain faction of society. The governed must know what the government is doing, which is why the emergence of all these media platforms is kudos to Cross Rover State and Nigeria at large," the Commissioner remarked.
She also urged informed that now that the masses are better informed, it stands them a good stead to scrutinize and keep the government in check.

In his earlier remarks, the Station Manager, Correct 93.1 FM, Mr. Roy Edache said his outfit is poised to adding its quota to broadcasting and change the paradigm with a deliberate move to bringing 'Pidgin English' to Calabar, adding that the only way to carry Nigerians along was to speak the language they understand, which is 'pidgin English.'

Mr. Edache assured that Correct 93.1 FM will maintain the right content, report objectively and ensure that Cross Riverians are educated, informed and entertained, while seeking synergy with the Ministry of Information and Orientation as a major source point for the enhancement of his station's performances.

UPN TACTICALLY THWART MY HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY AMBITION

By Awobiyi Timilehin Ojoanu

The ways of God is ever-pure and His thought is higher than ours just as heaven is higher than the earth.

Many months back out of my jingoistic heart i delved into political space with the aim to emancipate the people of Ijumu  constituency of Kogi State from the hands of political tyrants - enemies of development and participatory democracy.

The day I communicated to the young and old people across the 15 Wards that make up the Ijumu I was received.

UPN LEADERSHIP ARE SOMEWHAT DRIBBLERS

I began my internal and external consultation on the platform to run, having weighed other political parties and their serial failures and oppressive tendency, I considered Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN.

Myself in company of my supporters went to meet with UPN stakeholders at the state level even went further to meet with the National chairman on my ambition, reason being that the party's ideology is in consonance with my political ideology.

During the consultation period, I saw the filthiness in politics and the scam in the NOT TOO YOUNG TO RUN.

In a generic term, UPN leadership scuttle the process of my aspiration after I have went through a lot financially and permutation-wise.

The spirit of late Obafemi Awolowo will never forgive you guys for burying the ambition of young men/women that wanted to run on UPN platform but disallowed technically by party leaders due to their financial constraints.

I traveled down to Abuja where I submitted the nomination form to the party secretary as expected thinking they will be truthful to me; by submitting it to INEC, not until on the 12th of November after sending two of my friends to check if my name was published as submitted to INEC, but he said no. I went there to confirmed that my name was not included on the list that was sent to INEC office in Ijumu constituency.

Immediately I made a different contact to the politicians in the party: National chairman, National secretary and his assistant but their submission clarified there stands in every thing (actions speaks louder than voice.

I had called the party leaders of UPN time without number for them to rectify the grey areas, but i was kept in their "political darkroom" I.e they waited until INEC closes. But i waited patiently until 2nd of December before sending this to inform good people of Ijumu that UNITY PARTY OF NIGERIA, UPN, tactically removed the only legitimate candidate from the contest due to reason best known to them.

I am assuring the good people of Ijumu constituency and environs that I will continue to cry out until the dividend of democracy is practical in every nooks and crannies of our great land. UPN might be tactical, but we are more sensible to drive development as against political loyalty that is now a norm in the land.

OPPORTUNITIES  LOST WHEN WITH UPN

I lost several opportunities just because I thought I could use the platform of UPN to resurrect the ideologies of Obafemi Awolowo but unfortunately political Haggai has adulterated his ideologies:

 1. I lost money in my business because I was not giving it attention

2. A mega invitation to me by not too young to run group, national program for 400,000 youths aspiring for elective offices coming up on the 10th - 12th December in Abuja.

3. I was invited by other parties i turned it down because I wanted UPN party.

4. I paid a courtesy visit to traditional rulers and mobilised young men and women in my Ijumu constituency which I don't see as a waste of time, but a big cheat on the other side because I was propagating for UPN in the area.

MY JOY IN EVERY THING

The book of Zachariah 4:10 "Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel's hand."

This is my political debut, i will count it as an experienced I need to "blow" Kogi and Nigeria political space.

UNITY PARTY OF NIGERIA has shown me the road despite they did not meant well for the me and is tantamount to betrayal of the young people of Kogi and Nigeria at large.

 MY CONCLUSION

I owe Nigeria Youths and good people of Ijumu constituency the explanation above and that is why I came public to announced the reason behind my WITHDRAWAL.

I appreciate Unity Party Of Nigeria, UPN for not submitting my Name to INEC after I had produced 150 T-shirts, 3000 A3 size posters, 2000 stickers, 50 4by8 flex banner with the party name and logo.

I believe in what the holy book say that there is Time for every thing under sun, and I key into what the book of Habakkuk 2:3 says,
"FOR THE VISION AWAIT AN APPOINTED TIME; IT SPEAKS OF THE END AND WILL NOT PROVE FALSE. THOUGH IT LINGER, WAIT FOR IT; IT WILL CERTAINLY COME AND WILL NOT DELAY".

I have decide to wait till the appointed time of God, and will surely come to pass.

My media team, Alelagba media, team is open to any political party that have good plans for Ijumu people; I mean candidate with tangible manifesto embed in contemporary policies.

APPRECIATION

I thank God Almighty for the privileges to come this far, second to my Parent and family for allowing me to embark on the journey at first and to my ever-sincere supporters that believed in my capacity and leadership credits; i am extremely grateful.

Finally, thanks to UPN for showing me the exit door unceremoniously! Not too young to run has come to be, if your platform says no; we will continue to be on a look out for the best platform that will contain us and sponsor our ideologies.

God bless bless Ijumu constituency

God bless Kogi state

God bless Nigeria

By Kingsley Agim

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Archibong has advised an all-women group dealing on palm oil, Nka Iban Aran, to adopt current trends in business in order to utilize utmost possibilities and benefits in their chosen endeavour.

Mrs. Archibong gave the admonition when the group paid a courtesy call on her, Monday, 3rd December, 2018, in her office.

ONDO SOUTH SENATORIAL RACE- MEET JAMES USEGHAN

By Emmanuel Omopariola

James Useghan is man of integrity and humility is an integral part of his life, he doesn't feign it.

My first encounter with the president of FLM (First Massive Literati), James Useghan was one amidst  numerous encounters i will never forget.

The Ondo South Senatorial Aspirant, James Useghan arrived Lokoja a night before we had FML inaugural meeting- he never slept all through the night because of his passion to get things working as it were in Nigeria again.

He is selfless and gives all FML state coordinators across the federation a full autonomy (to take decision like he would do).

James Useghan is a quintessential of agent of "positive change".

I call on all Ondo Southerners, don't for any reason recycle leaders that has put you guys in political poverty,  economic poverty and industrialization deficit.

The only man that can run a transparent representation and deliver the dividend of democracy to Ondo South without favourism is James Useghan.

It is total "madness" to be voting for leaders that has put you outside the "benefit system of the government."

It is high time the youths start replacing the political leaders that has stopped the development of this country.

The tomorrow we have been waiting for since yesterday is now!

Vote for probity.
Vote Moral apostle.
Vote for productiveness.

THE NIGERIAN MEDIA IS THE WEAKEST ACTOR IN POLICY FORMULATION PROCESS.

By Emmanuel Olalekan Omopariola

Policy can be seen in an encapsulate point of view as- what government had done, doing or intending to do ( it's very unfortunate that the "things" they DID (development) they are  UNDOING it today- privatization and commercialization).

Howbeit, in every policy formulation process, there are governmental actors and non governmental actors that serves as a catalyst to the passage of every policy in order to solve "peoples problems".

Nigerian media was a key instrument during the clamour for " self-government" ( before independence); but it is disheartening today to know they are the enemies of the people they use to represent through their propaganda and  hypocritical journalism.

It is no more a joke that the surge in journalism in Nigeria is not for the  sake of the people neither are they ready to be exposing corrupt Nigerians, it is crystal clear that journalism today has become the most populous profession that fasten the political appointment of some in the profession.

The Presidential Aspirant of AAC (Africa Action Congress), "His Excellency" Omoyele Sowore recently lambasted the media for not publishing his campaign tour to Kano, Sokoto and Katsina in a press interview (if it were to be corrupt leaders the media would have given them publicity he lamented).

The arrest of journalists is not something that should astound any good and logical citizens anymore, most of them are still the reason politicians are in office.

The effect of true journalism is never felt in the lives of Nigerians.

The exception in the field of activism/journalism are: Femi Falana (SAN), Omoyele Sowore the founder Sahara reporter  and Ahmed Isah A.K.A ordinary president the founder of Brekete family/human right radio) to mention but few.

I am calling on journalists and Nigerians, it is time to get our country working again.

Have understanding for you to be outstanding .

Eta Mbora coming back is Pre-eminent for effective legislation.

By Prince Charles Ekanem

In politics, you are bound to have disagreements. You cannot have everything moving perfectly well all the time. But it is always possible to sit back and look at how things are going and correct what needs to be corrected.

I have known Eta Mbora for a very long time and I can assure that if there was any lapses between him and and his constituents, such lapses will be forclose in 2019 new legislative year.

Let me remind all that the National Assembly is a pre-eminent democratic institution that is, amongst other responsibilities, charged with legislation making and acting as checks and balances vis-à-vis the executive arm of the federal government.

Hon Eta Mbora in the past three and the half years in its oversight roles and functions, has help set benchmarks for the nation's development through his giant stride in healthcare, social welfare and effective representation amongt others.

His recent records has amply shown that the people of Calabar Municipality and Odukpani Federal Constituency have been duly represented even though in politics not all are politically satisfy with performance of their public servant. Our putative democracy is imperilled or enhanced by these set of people depending on whether or not we have a truly functioning legislature that is prepared to assert its legitimacy by standing up to the kind of executive rascality and truancy that have been the stock in trade of achievements since 2015.

You have the chance to Support Hon Eta Mbora for second term for I know and I know that he will not disappoint comes 2019-2023.
