C'River philanthropist sues for Peace in wake of recent communal crisis
The President of Ben Akak Foundation, Engineer Ben Akak has called on warring communities in Cross River State to down their arms and embrace peace, stating that peace is the only way to gain meaningful development in their communities. Detailing Cross River can report.
Engr. Akak made this known while addressing Newsmen shortly after gracing the funeral service of Late Chief Eta Enyi Ofem, father of Dr. Davies Etta, Member representing Abi State House Constituency in Ebom, Abi Local Government Area (a warring community in Abi LGA).
While condemning the wanton destruction of lives and properties in the recently renewed communal clash between Ikot Offiong community in Odukpani Local Government Area and Oku Iboku in Itu local government area of Cross River State and all the pockets of communal clashes across the State, Engr. Akak called on stakeholders from Bahumono communities in Abi Local Government Area to seek Peace and stop the unnecessary bloodshed and destruction of properties.
The philanthropist whose philanthropic gestures has touched the lives of Cross Riverians across the state through scholarships and grants for students and budding entrepreneurs called on the government agencies, traditional and political leaders in Cross River State to focus on good leadership which promotes peace and crisis management. Stating that if all political leaders and traditional leaders in our communities are committed to peace, we will surely have less communal crises in our communities.
Speaking further, Engr Akak opined that communal crisis as witness across the state of not properly managed would eventually lead to backwardness, underdevelopment and neglect from the Government stating that "No meaningful development will be attracted to warring communities as no reasonable investors or government would want to invest in a war zone".
He tasks all leaders to join hands together in promoting and supporting the industrialization initiative of Governor Ben Ayade, which according to him will provide jobs to teeming youths in our communities to reduce unemployment and keep our Youth's busy, so that they would not be pushed into crimes.
