Defunct Anti-Deforestation Committee thanks Ayade, for the Opportunity to Serve
The Chairman and Members of the just dissolved interim taskforce on anti- deforestation in Cross River State had expressed their gratitude and appreciation to the Governor Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade and people of the State for opportunity to serve in that capacity for about five months.
Speaking on behalf of the Committee Mr. Erasmus Ekpang who was the Secretary thanked the Governor for finding them worthy for such a dedicate task at this period of our collective history where our forest reserves are being threatened due to the unfortunate activities of wood loggers across the state.
In his words "our profound gratitude to God and secondly to the most Olimpotic Governor of Cross River State Sir, Sen. Prof. Ben Ayade for giving us the opportunity to serve for this period of five months as a team to oversee the illegal activities taking place in our dear forest.
We as a team did our best but our best may not have been good enough".
Mr. Ekpang enumerated the achievements of the Committee within this period describing it as worthwhile. According to him, a total of 25 trucks carrying woods were arrested out of which more than 20 trucks have been offloaded at the government designated area. Additional 3 trucks with woods at the Area Commands in Ogoja and Ikom respectively.
Mr. Erasmus used the opportunity to remind the Governor of some of the unfortunate challenges that bedeviled the Committee, said about 3 Marshalls who worked with them lost their lives. According to him, wood loggers were very desperate set of people who can do anything to eliminate perceived obstacles in their ways. He pleaded with the Governor compensate the family of these deceased Marshalls who are also loyal party faithful of the People Democratic Party (PDP).
The Committee however reassured the His Excellency of their resolve to remain loyal and committed to working with him to to deliver on his mandate of liberating Cross River State. "we remain committed and grateful to your course. We will continue to put in our best to make sure we grow Cross River State together. As a people, we will always assist the new interim taskforce where necessary, and are open to support this administration when called opon in due course. Once again, thank you our Digital Father".
