BAKASSI ELDERS CONDEMN ATTACK ON STATE SECURITY ADVISER … WANT PERPETRATORS PROSECUTED
By Kingsley Agim
In the wake of the gruesome attack and assassination attempt on the State Security Adviser – South, Hon. Ani Esin at his residence in the Akai Efa area of Calabar Municipality, the Elders and opinion leaders of Bakassi have condemned the heinous act and want perpetrators brought to book.
The elders made known during a press briefing on Thursday, held at Ekpiri Ikang, Bakassi Local Government Area.
A statement signed by the elders and delivered by Hon. Ekpo Ekpo Bassey, Member Representing Bakassi in the Cross River State House of Assembly, read: "We, as leaders of the Bakassi people strongly condemn this gruesome attack and the criminal attempt to take the life of a Community Leader and Public Servant with a rich pedigree of service and positive interventions for the cause of Bakassi and indeed the State."
"Whatever the motive of these criminals, we call on the security agencies to spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice. We again urge the Police, DSS and indeed, other security forces in the State to speedily bring these miscreants to justice, to serve as a deterrent to others and nip in the bud the trending impression of an uptick in crime rate in the State."
The elders maintained that such a dastardly act was designed to silence Hon. Ani Esin for his principled stand for truth on issues concerning Bakassi and the politics of Cross River State.
The elders stated that after (Hon. Esin) working tirelessly and around the clock to deliver his Party's candidates in the just-concluded elections, an organized termination of his life, would have amounted to the greatest injustice to deprive him of the fruits of his labour.
The release also called on Bakassians back home who are frayed by the ungodly assault of 12th March, 2019 on Hon. Esin to calm down, as he (Hon. Esin) is recuperating well in the hospital, while assuring them that the security forces are on deck to fish out the assailants.
The elders commended the prompt intervention of His Excellency, Governor Ben Ayade, which they maintained, gives them confidence that there is light at the end of the tunnel of this investigation.
The statement was jointly signed by Hon. Ekpo Ekpo Bassey, Member Representing Bakassi in the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. (Chief) Emmanuel Etene, Former Chairman, Bakassi Local Government Area, Chief (Dr.) Eneyo Eyo, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Communication, Mr. Austin Ibok, Special Adviser on Inter-Party Affairs, Chief Effefiom Etim Archibong, Community Leader, Mr. Gabriel O. Etim, Community Leader.
