Tetanus Elimination; Gov. Ben Ayade Commitment applaudable - Dr. Betta Edu


Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency,  Dr Betta Edu has stated that Governor Ben Ayade is committed to elimination of Tetanus in the State as Cross River State gear up to another round of Maternal Neonatal Tetanus Elimination Week.

She disclose this during an Advocacy Visit to Commissioner of Education, Mr Goddy Eta in Calabar on Monday. 

Dr Edu said, the Governor is committed to ensuring increased quality of life for the people.

"By the grace of God, we have been delivering on our promises to the people and we are determined to do more in collaboration with your Ministry  and our development partners. We need you to grant us access to persons within the age limit stated that are still in school as well as advocate to the Obolopon of Ugep, since Yakurr is amongs the 12 LGAs where the activities will take place.

"This administration will continue to support maternal neonatal tetanus elimination and elimination of other diseases that has increased neonatal mortality. We strive to make tremendous impacts on women and children; we implore the people to take full advantage of this intervention package," Edu said.

According to her the Agency was in the Ministry of Education to seek support and collaboration by intimating Principals and students about the 2nd Round MNTE Exercise eligible to students from 15 Years of age to 49 years old. This exercise is to eliminate neonatal tetanus!

She noted that the exercise will take place in 12 LGAs across the three senatorial districts beginning from 27th March -31st March, 2019.

Responding, Commissioner of Education, Mr Goddy Eta enjoined health workers to be diligent in their duties for the success of the government programmes.

He assured the Agency of his support to the exercise by promising to ensure that all schools are open for health workers, stressing that ''a child that is healthy will live a super healthy life and will perform exceedingly well in school.

In her entourage to the Ministry of Education were head of Social mobilisation in the Agency,  Mrs Agnes Ogogo, UNICEF representative,  Mr Ephraim Chukwu and Mr John Oden of National Primary Healthcare Development Agency amongst others
