COVID-19: Muslims obey State Directives over Closure of Mosque in Calabar--- Dr. Betta Edu
Cross River State Government says total compliance on closure of mosques in the state will be enforce by the hadhoc taskforce Committe on COVID-19 inline with the directive given by Governor Ben Ayade on Social and religious shutdown order.
Commissioner for health, Dr Betta Edu who went round on inspection today, disclosed that no Friday Prayer held in any mosque in calabar after herself and her colleague visited the council of imams and Scholars in Cross River State at the Eastern Naval Command Central Mosque in Calabar.
Edu said the meeting became imperative, due to intelligence report given that some mosques were still praying in congregation, saying the directive is aim to curtail the deadly Coronavirus disease which has Continue to be on the increase in Nigeria.
The Commissioner said though, there is no confirm case of Covid-19 in Cross River yet,all efforts to stop it's coming into the state can only be achieved with the support of the Muslim Communities by keeping the stay at home order.
She again reminded the Imams and Scholars of "Closure of all mosques in the state pending when the order is lifted" according to the directive of the State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade.
On his part,the Special Adviser to the Governor on Muslim Affairs,Alhaji Hassan Tanimu whose office was Incharge of the meeting ,told the Muslim Scholars that churches have been given the same order "in the interest of our Health"
Tanimu who commended Dr Edu for her timely intervention on any issues related to health ,said Governor Ben Ayade had appointed a square peg in a quare hole.
"My people I only called the Commissioner for health concerning this meeting this morning and despite all her busy schedules at this critical time,she find time to be here with us,this is true service for the people"he said .
Some of the Imams who spoke at the event including,Chief Imam of Calabar Central Mosque, Ustaz Kabeer Olowolayemo,Major Alaaya of the 13 brigade of Nigerian Army, Navy, Imam of the two Bogobiri Central mosques and others assured Government of the enforcement order.
The Imams who thanked Governor Ayade for the appointment of special Adviser on Muslim Affairs which is the first in the history of the state,called for better working relationship between Muslims in the state and Government.
The Commissioner used the period of the meeting to distribute hand sanitizers and other protective equipments to the Council of imams and scholars to prevent COVID-19 pandemic .
