The Director General of National Population Commission in company of top directors of the Commission has express readiness to partner with Peace Corps of Nigeria in the up-coming nationwide census exercise in other to achieve a hitch free exercise. Dr. Ghaji Ismaila Bello stated this at the commission's Headquarters in Abuja while playing host to Peace Corps of Nigeria delegation led by National Commandant of the Corps Amb. Dr Dickson A O Akoh.
Amb. Akoh while presenting some possible ways of partnership with the Commission stated that, the Peace Corps of Nigeria can serve as reservoir and spring-board for volunteerism and involvement in social and community services such as Immunization, Sanitation and First Aid, Census, Voters Registration and other numerous community services.
Dr. Akoh further added that " Sir, I am pleased to further inform you that, our decision to be involved in the activities of this commission was informed by our zeal and determination to use our over 178,000 teeming manpower to contribute our quota towards the advancement and development of our country, which can only be realised through a proper statistical data of our population and it's demographic analysis."
In his reaction, the director general express his profound gratitude to the Corps for finding the Commission worthy for the visit and subsequent partnership . While wishing Peace Corps of Nigeria quick passage and assent to the Nigerian Peace Corps Establishment Bill in other to advance further partnership with the commission Dr. Ghaji Bello said " ur agency which by the grace of God will soon come on board is an embodiment of what society ought to be, we are ever ready as a commission to expand the frontier of our partnership with your group"
Dr. Ghaji Bello stated further that the commission has started Enumeration Area Demarcation EAD across the country. He assured of special provision to be set aside for full involvement of Peace Corps of Nigeria members in subsequent exercise as ad-hoc staff.
Highlight of the visit was the presentation of national population commission's study materials to the Corps and the presentation of the Corps' brochure to the commission.
With renewed vigor, Peace Corps of Nigeria shall extend its partnership drive with other government agencies, local and international organizations in other to achieve its aims and objectives of mass engagement of Nigerian youth.
