AYADE RADIATES LOVE AND COMPASSION FOR THE DOWN TRODEN; THE VULNERABLE AND POOR IN CROSS RIVER STATE- REACHES OUT TO REFUGEES IN OGOJA CAMP.
Governor Ben Ayade is one of the most compassionate leaders in Nigeria today. Many say it is because of his humble beginning, some say he knows what it means to sleep hungry and that is why he decided that no one should go to bed hungry.
He is known for his popular quote " we don't give because we have enough, we give because we care enough!" Even in private meetings, when you hear his discussions, he never fails to emphasize on the fact that whatever intervention going on must benefit the poor and down trodden in Cross River state. Little wonder, his health policies are rapped around primary health care where he believes he can provide care for those who society have placed on the back burner for one reason or the other.
For no fault of his, the state has been under undue pressure with its resources stretched beyond boundaries by the influx of over 20,000 refugees and asylum seekers from southern Cameroon to Cross River state. On his instructions the DG of the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu paid a visit to the refugee camp in Ogoja and health facilities around refugee settlements to confirm the health status and living conditions of the refugee and provide some relief materials for them.
The DG Dr Betta Edu who was moved to tears, regrets the psychological and emotional trauma cause to the people especially women and children in the camps and settlements, assured them of continue free health care at the nearest PHC.
She said over 15000 have benefited from the services at different LGAs and we will continue to do more.
She thanked UNHCR, UNFPA and red cross as well as other NGOs who have been giving support to the refugees, while calling on federal Government to look into the issue of poor feeding and welfare for the refugees because it is supposed to be a federal Government responsibility.
She promises immediate revitalization of Primary health facilities around them which will not only benefit refugees but community members that will be treated free of charge too.
