By Kingsley Agim
Cross River State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Archibong has restated the State Governor Ben Ayade's commitment to rid the beautiful city of Calabar of potholes, reactivate street /traffic lights in order to return the ambience the ancient city is reputed for, especially with the Carnival Calabar Festival drawing close.
Mrs. Archibong made this known to newsmen during the flagg-off of the 2018 Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ember Months Mega Rally, held recently at Etim Edem Park, Calabar.
The Commissioner also stated that it is in view of the governor's stand on safety on our roads that massive intervention to revamp potholes and traffic/street lights had commenced in Calabar.
Mrs. Archibong , who noted that with the busy nature of our roads within the cosmopolitan city of Calabar and heavy rainfall that characterizes the zone, roads are bound to succumb to rapid wear and tear, also maintained that the Ayade-led government will continue to rehabilitate and reactivate amenities to ensure that the lcity continues to be a tourist haven.
She lauded the Federal Road Safety Corps for considering it expedient to remind road users of the ember months, the approaching Christmas festivities and the importance of staying alive, describing this year's Theme – Safe Driving, Safe Arrivall – as apt.
The Information and Orientation Commissioner maintained that the rally "will arouse the consciousness of road users to the fact that safety is their responsibility."
She called on road users to observe safety measures, avoid reckless driving and respect other road users in order to ensure safety on the roads.
The information and Orientation Boss also sought for inter-agency cooperation among security agencies to ensure adequate security on our roads.
