The Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prof. Ben. Ayade yesterday 12th November 2018 at. U. J. Esuene Stadium received the national sports festival Unity Torch, for the 19th edition of the games expected to hold at Abuja from 6th-16th December 2018.
Hon. Orok Duke, Chairman Cross River State Sports Commission, on behalf of the Governor, receiving the Torch from a delegation of the federal ministry of Youth and Sports led by Mr Sunny Obot said in South-South, Cross River is the first state to receive the Torch of Unity after the flagged of by president recently.
Ayade stated that it will bid to host the National sports festival in 2020, despite losing hosting right to Abuja this 2018.
Hon. Orok Duke added that the Torch symbolizes peace and unity and hopefully peace will rain in Nigeria and cross river state.
While speaking to Media men, Hon. Orok said the Governor is not angry that he was denied finances by federal government but the state will participate and cross river state would play a key role to ensure success is achieved and every sport we participate in, we shall come back with a trophy.
The event was witness by dignitaries and attletes and Ayade also wished participating state and attletes well during the event.
