The Permanent Secretary in the Cross River State Ministry of Information and Orientation, Mr. Aye Henshaw II has described education as guardians/parents’ best gift to their wards/children. Mr. Henshaw made the assertion when he recently chaired the maiden inter-house sports competition of the Presbyterian Primary School, Nsidung, Bakassi Local Government Area. The technocrat maintained that the highest form of education is translating an individual into a compact being, capable of dealing with life in its entirety. The Permanent Secretary pointed out that apart from acquiring formal education in school, activities such as the inter-house sports competition are capable of producing more Okochas, Mikels, Ronaldos and Messis. Henshaw thanked management and staff of the school, as well as the traditional institution of Nsidung Community for their collective efforts in making the inter-house sports competition a success, urging them to imbibe a culture of providing quality education to their children and wards. Earlier in his welcome address, the Head Teacher of the School, Mr. Francis Etim Ene commended parents, individuals and the larger Nsidung Community for finding time out of their busy schedule to grace the maiden edition of the school’s inter-house competition, expressing optimism that subsequent editions would be greater and better. Archibong Strengthens Partnership on Effective CVR & PVC Sensitization for C'Riverians

By Kingsley Agim The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Archibong has sought a strengthening of partnership between her Ministry and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the State for effective sensitization of Cross Riverians on the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration (CVR) exercise and the need for owning a Personal Voter Card (PVC). Mrs. Archibong made the call during a recent working visit on the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, at INEC State Headquarters, Murtala Muhammed Highway, Calabar. Highlighting her Ministry’s orientation role, the Information and Orientation boss said it has become a necessity to get the populace to understand that having a Personal Voter Card does not have to be dictated only by political affiliation, but a civic responsibility and an authentic means of identification. “We are aware of the enormous task before INEC and the not-too-pleasant terrain of Cross River State, but it is gratifying to note that Cross Riverians have worked hard to ensure success, by mobilizing citizens to come out and register for possession of their PVC,” Archibong added. Archibong told INEC that an additional innovation by her Ministry to encourage voter registration is making the possession of PVC a prerequisite for the collection of the prize money during the Ministry’s weekly INFOQUIZ programme. She expressed Governor Ayade’s preparedness to continue to support the activities of INEC in the State. In his response, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Frankland Briyai Dr. Briyai, described the Ministry of Information and Orientation as a “dependable and supportive ally,” and praised the Commissioner on the Info-Quiz initiative, adding that making ownership of PVC a major prerequisite for winning the competition has aroused citizens’ interest in registering and owning a Personal Voter Card and made INEC’s job in the State a lot easier. The INEC boss revealed that over 72 thousand voters’ card are yet to be collected by their owners and called on Cross Riverians and residents who are yet to collect to visit INEC offices across the State for collection of their cards. He further enjoined cross Riverians who have registered to visit http://voterreg.inecnigeria.org – a seamless, innovative and reliable link – to ascertain their statuses.

Okorocha Address Archbishop Obinna over 2019 gubernatorial election

SUBJECT: WE RESPECT ARCHBISHOP OBINNA BUT HE CANNOT INSTALL AN APGA GOVERNOR IN 2019 - WE CHALLENGE HIM TO NAME ANYBODY ARRESTED OR IMPRISONED BY GOV. OKOROCHA OR THE GOVERNMENT SINCE 2011 AS HE ALLEGED We have read the latest accusation by Archbishop Anthony Obinna of the Catholic Diocese of Owerri against Governor Rochas Okorocha, and we shall continue to show our respect for the Archbishop, but one fact remains sacrosanct, he cannot install a governor of APGA extraction in 2019 because he could not also do that in 2015 when he first tried it. The Archbishop had hidden under his Easter Message Press Conference to continue his onslaught on the governor, Owelle Okorocha and his Rescue Mission Government, making it the tenth time in less than two months the Church leader had descended on the governor and the administration. Of all the allegations the Archbishop made against the governor, the most unfortunate, was the one he said that, “Governor Okorocha is the only voice which everyone has to listen to and obey, otherwise, arrests and imprisonments would follow”. This is the height of blackmail. And we humbly wish to challenge the Archbishop to mention just one person, the governor or government has arrested for any reason including criticizing him or anybody the governor has imprisoned since he came on board as governor in 2011. Where the Archbishop fails to do this, we ask with every sense of politeness that he corrects that false claim and if he deems it worth-doing, apologize to the governor. Of all the governors that had governed the State both Military and Civilian, Okorocha stands out to be the most tolerant and accommodating. We stand to be challenged on this assertion. The overwhelming love of Imo people for the governor means more to us than the weak voice of the opposition in the State made up of few Politicians. It has become obvious that the Archbishop has intensified his disdain or hatred for APC, President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Okorocha this time because of the 2019 election. And the Archbishop should know that most people have become fed up with his repeated unprovoked and unwarranted attacks on the governor and his government using every platform and every event available to him. We do not think that the Archbishop should be doing that for the benefit of a particular Political Party or certain Politicians. Our happiness is that majority of the members of his Diocese do not share the same views with him. Sam Onwuemeodo Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.

The D.G Cross River State Voice of Central has reiterated his call on Cross River State Central and Crossiverians to pray for peace, unity and prosperity of Central Senatorial District and Cross River in general. Victor Bassey made the call on Wednesday during his briefing with members of Voice of Central at the House of Assembly complex. He noted that such prayers were imperative to promote unity and harmonious coexistence. He also admonished Central Youths and Crossiverians to shun violence, cultism and acts capable of disrupting peace and stability in Central and Cross River State. That the bloodshed in Abi, Yakurr, Obubura, Boki, Calabar Municipal and Calabar South is too much. Young men who are bread winners and potential leaders are dieing in the name of cultism and communal crisis. I condemned this in totality. He added. The D.G. lauded the state government efforts to restore peace. He further commended the Governor Prof. Ben Ayade over His resettlement programmes designed to provide decent residential homes for internally displaced persons (I.D.P), schools and clinics across the state. Finally he charged the youth to be united, remain one and work together for the betterment of all. STOP THE KILLING. WE ARE ONE. D.G VOICE OF CENTRAL
