By Kingsley Agim
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Archibong has heaped praises on Governor Ben Ayade’s commitment towards quality and affordable healthcare delivery for the people of the State.
Mrs. Archibong made the remark during a two-day Media Review meeting for Media and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), held recently in the Conference Room of the Cross River Geographic Information Agency (CRGIA), Calabar.
She further noted that the Ayade-led administration’s commitment towards the health and wellbeing of its citizens, and other trailblazing strides, have earned the State numerous awards and made Cross River an example as well as envy among the comity of Nigerian states.
Archibong expressed gratitude to Health Finance Governance (HFG) and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for their partnership with the State Government and active involvement in ensuring that the Cross River Health Insurance Scheme becomes a reality.
The commissioner who decried the low ranking of Nigeria in terms of budgetary provisions for the health sector, expressed concern over the alarming rate of outbreaks of epidemics recently in the West African Sub-region, calling on Cross Riverians to turn to health insurance such as the AYADECARE as the pathway to averting further health disasters.
She also harped on active participation of the media and civil society organizations to educate the public on the importance of Cross River Health Insurance Scheme, urging media practitioners to tailor messages towards wooing Cross Riverians to buy-in into the scheme.
The two-day Media Review Meeting which drew attendance from the Special Adviser – Insurance, Chief Godwin Iyala, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Orientation, Mr. Ayae Henshaw, among other seasoned media practitioners, featured topical subjects like Updates on the CRSHIS; Health Insurance as a Vehicle towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC); Review of Cross River State Media Work Plan for public sensitization on health insurance; Understanding the basic concepts in Health Finance; the Role of CSOs in Achieving UHC and Review of Developed Communication and Media Strategy.
