Archibong Commends Pace of Work at Bakassi Social Housing Project

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Effiom Archibong has expressed satisfaction with the pace of work at the ongoing Bakassi Social Housing Project located at Ifiang Ayong Community of Bakassi Local Government Area of the State.

Mrs. Archibong made the commendation when she led journalists on a media tour of projects executed by the Ayade-led administration, beginning with the Bakassi Social Housing Project.

According to the Commissioner, the essence of the tour is to afford the media world first-hand information on the achievements and deliverables of the present administration to enable them present to the public correct information to enable citizens see evidential proof that truly Governor Ayade is working.

She said “not only has Governor Ayade kept his promise of paying salaries promptly, he is also ensuring that his promises of infrastructural development, enhancement of quality of life and wellbeing of Cross Riverians are kept in spite of the difficult economic situation.”

Answering questions on the classy status of the Social Housing Units, the Commissioner explained: “no one is born under-privileged, but circumstances of life have made them so and should not be adjudged as poor, maintaining that “if God has sent Governor Ayade to bring succor to the Displaced People Bakassi; then why not?

While urging journalists to ensure truthful and objective reportage devoid of falsehood and hate speeches, the Mrs. Archibong also enjoined detractors to criticize constructively, stressing that, for the avoidance of doubt, they can take a trip to Ifiang Ayong to see things for themselves.

She then commended the Bakassi Community for keying into the project and maintaining peace and harmony which, she noted, has enhanced work on the site.

Speaking, the Commissioner for Social Housing, Mr. Okokon Edem Effiom, said the construction of the Housing Units project has contributed immensely to the local economy of the Bakassi people, whom he said, were directly responsible for provision of site materials, ranging from wood, sand, artisans, labour and other sundry services.

Commissioner Effiom then praised the commitment of the Bakassi people towards the actualization of the project and assured them that “given the Governor’s belief in equality, the luxurious Housing Units would be dished out to the Displaced People of Bakassi on completion.

The Social Housing Commissioner, who gave the status of the project as 70% completed, restated the commitment of Governor Ayade to provide conducive residential quarters for the people, which according to him, will bring relief, transformation and real essence of life to Cross Riverians.

According to the Project Architect, Arc. Monday Unoh, the Orange Circus Housing Estate, as it will be called, would have features such as schools; market; children playground; recreation centre; hospital; shopping malls; and clinic. Others are, skills acquisition centre; corner shops; security unit; fire station and Governor’s Resting House.

In his comment, the site storekeeper, Mr. Columbus Obeten, said materials in store are provided strictly based on specifications which are in accordance with international standard.

Some of the locals, Bassey Edet, a plumber, Edem Asuquo, the Chief Security, and Sunday Bassey, Timber Supplier, spoke highly of Governor Ben Ayade’s Social Housing Initiative in the area, recounting its enormous economic benefits to their immediate families and the entire community.
