Cross River State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Comrade Asu Okang, has cautioned that vital government information could be compromised by Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), that undertake printing of government documents in private printing houses, despite persistent government directives in this regard.
Comrade Okang further queried that such actions aside contravening the Official Secret Act of the Public Service, adversely affect the revenue generation target of the Government Printing Press, whose traditional functions he said, has already been greatly eroded by the influx of private printing houses, portfolio printers as well as contractors in recent times.
The Information and Orientation Commissioner, who gave the caution in Calabar, during an on the spot inspection of facilities at the Government Printing Press, therefore called on Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to adhere strictly to the government directives, to ensure that all State Government publications, security documents, letter heads, calendars, dairies, gazettes, greeting cards, amongst others, are printed at the Government Printing Press, adding that it is the statutory function of the Government Printing Press.
Allaying the fears of lack of equipment, Comrade Okang assured that facilities at the Government Printing Press will be upgraded for optimal service delivery, and hinted that the Ministry will soon commence the printing of books and other documents for the Nigeria Army.
The Commissioner was accompanied on the visit by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Aye Henshaw; the State Director of Information, Mrs Pauline Eba; the Director Public Relations, Mr. Michael Nyajor; the Director of Administration, Dr. (Mrs.) Atim Ekpenyong; the Director Orientation, Mrs. Roseline Irek; the Director Archives, Mr. Effiong Okon, and the Acting Director of Technical Services Department, Mrs. Anita Ekpenyong, amongst others.
