The PDP Chairmanship aspirant Engr. Matthew Fidelis Bassey unveiled his manifesto on Monday while flagging off his campaign in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government of Cross River State.
Engr. Matthew who divided his manifesto into 14 Points Agenda, said he is going to consolidate on the gains and achievements of His Excellency Prof. Ben Ayade.
He achored his manifesto which he tagged achievable and realistic aganda 2020-2023 on 14 points agenda of Security, Education, Health, Environment, Power/Electricity/Utility, Tourism, Women & Children, Youths & Sports Development, Agriculture, Trade & Commerce, Children, Ngos, Aged Parents & Special Needy.
On security Engr Matthew said
We will:
1. Continue to undertake all necessary measures to keep all Communities in Yakurr LGA status as the safest LGA
in Cross River;
2. Establish Yakurr Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (YDSVRT) to provide a quick response to
these issues;
3. Mobilize Community vigilantes by donating more 5 patrol vans, 20 walkie talkies, 1 base and repeater stations,
uniforms, 50 handcuffs, belts, berets and boots to help them keep our communities safe;
4. Continue to support/collaboration with different security agents in the state with better interagency collaboration approach;
5. Continue the motor cycle patrol intervention initiative to deter criminal activities in the State;
On Education he added that
We will:
1. Work closely with the Governor to intervene in Education, in the three focus areas-students, infrastructure
and teachers to ensure we surpass the current standard we have set in education;
2. Fence all State-owned schools that are yet to be fenced and provide security for our schools to ensure that our
students are well guarded and also prevent vandalization and theft of properties in our schools;
3. Continue to encourage the incentivizing of teachers in hard to reach areas and teachers of core subjects
(English, Mathematics, Sciences ) to motivate our teachers and offer more access for quality education to our
children in riverine and agrarian communities;
4. Sustain existing strong working relationship with the church in transforming the education sector;
5. Continue the ongoing rehabilitation of primary and secondary schools;
On Health Captain said
We will:
1. Provide useful interventions in social care and community rehabilitation services;
2. Work closely with the Governor to provide free healthcare policy for pregnant women (pre-antenatal care)
and put in place a medical scheme for the elderly above 75 years;
3. Encourage affordable healthcare system for Yakurr people;
4. Continue to upgrade our healthcare system;
5. Provide quality health care for artisans, traders, citizens living in townships
On Environment Matthew noted that
We will:
1. Continue to ensure a beautiful Communities by, grass seedling planting and maintenance, tree planting along newly constructed highway and stone laying (where applicable) and festive
decorations;
2. Continue to embark on routine de-silting of drainages and weeding along major roads and streets in our communities;
3. Reverse current Deforestation by planting up open spaces, markets ,school fields, church ground, small channels etc and also introducing “plant-a-tree” schemes in all primary schools across our
Communities;
He went ahead on Power/electricity/utility
We will:
1. Work closely with the Governor to explore adoption of cheap and easily accessible solar power as an alternative supply of electricity to small households and establishments in the state;
2. Work closely with the Governor in expanding electrification projects across our communities to improve power supply;
On Tourist attraction Engr. Matthew opined that
We will:
1. Work closely with the Governor to explore our Kosanmah River (Blue river) to become a tourist site;
2. Work closely with the Governor to explore our popular cave in Ekori, this cave is located between Mkpani and Ekori to become a tourist site to increase our internally generated revenue;
He also led emphasis on
Women and children
We will:
1. Establish farming Cluster schemes across our communities and society cooperatives for women across all Local Government Area;
2. Work closely with the Governor to ensure continued access to quality and affordable
healthcare by constructing maternal and child care centers;
3. Continue to encourage increased participation of women in politics by appointing more women in key political positions;
4. Ensure a quick response to the needs of our women by setting up grassroots platforms where they can easily communicate their requests to the government;
5. Work closely with the Governor to enact laws to protect the rights of women from violence at work and homes;
6. Continue to support our women in agricultural endeavors by distributing seedlings, fingerlings, chicks, farm implements, fertilizers, etc. and also train them on modern agricultural skills.
Matthew made his points clear on YOUTHS & SPORTS DEVELOPMENT
We will:
1. Establish 5 sport centers across our Communities to discover young talents;
2. Create free vocational/technical institutes across our Communities;
3. Introduce an annual Yakurr LGA Sports Festival to stimulate and promote healthy
competition among youths;
Captain Matthew said in AGRICULTURE
We will:
1. Establish Agric. Training & Empowerment Centres with primary focus on poultry, piggery and fish farming in across our Communities at the least 3 as flagship centres-Train 300 youths yearly to be self employed and employers of up to 3000 people. Hence 90,000 people will be gainfully employed effectively. (TRAIN THE TRAINER CONCEPT);
2. Establish Farm villages (fish, poultry etc.) across our Communities for our youths;
3. Identify & develop Agric. clusters & cooperatives and position them for funding by financial institutions and facilitate the link between them and development organisations as well as access to markets;
Trade and Commerce were not left out
1. Create an output market where our farmers can sell their produces and make more profit, construct and regulate all trade activities in all our major markets across our Communities;
2. Create access to ports to facilitate movement of people and goods to our big towns;
Engr. Matthew added that he cannot do without
Children
For our children aged 0-17, We Will:
1. Build more classrooms across our Communities to enhance conducive learning;
2. Provide books for our children for writing;
3. Reward outstanding students with monetary gifts and scholarships grants to spur them into performing better;
4. Equip our schools with modern recreational facilities, as ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’;
5. Continue to upgrade our Maternal and Child Healthcare centers for improved healthcare delivery;
He finalised with the Aged parents and special needy
For those with special needs and the very poor, We will:
1. Continue to employ physically challenged persons to give them a means of livelihood
and a sense of belonging;
2. Provide grants to support their welfare;
3. Attract local and international partners to donate relief materials to better the lives of our needy;
4. Provide free education up to Secondary school level because education is the heritage of the Yakurr child;
In conclusion the manifesto presentation witnessed a large turnout of great personality in the state, Local Government, political leaders, elders, youths, students and ruralites who collectively endorsed Engr. Matthew Fidelis Basset.
