Presidential TaskForce on Covid19 commends Ayade for Functional Primary Healthcare.



The Cross River State Government has received commendation for Its fight against Covid-19 and other infectious diseases especially as it involves the primary Healthcare Development Agency in aggressive rural sensitization .

Dr. Mrs Olubolanle Olowo,Team lead for the Presidential Taskforce On Covid19 visit to the state, made the commendations as she was led on a need and capacity assessment of one of Cross River's comprehensive Healthcare Facilities, PHC Maybe Avenue.

Dr Olowu said the state's status of being Covid-19 free is justifiable with the massive and huge investments being allocated to the primary Healthcare Development Agency and the workers selfless nature as was displayed during the familiarity tour.

She further noted that Cross River State is among the few states in the country with comprehensive primary health services still ongoing even though interests of most states have shifted fully to the fight against Covid19.

She however encouraged the Director General of the Agency, Dr.Janet Ekpenyong to continually seek for staff development and capacity building in the quest to attain Universal Health Coverage for improved service delivery.

While also speaking, the representative of the Executive Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Urua said, Cross River State will be among the pilot states to benefit from various technical supports and trainings of Heath workers for maximum output currently being planned for.

Dr Urua said, with various positive reports received about the state in areas of Maternal Health, Child care services, and various infectious diseases, Cross Riverians must appreciate the proactive leadership style of His Excellency, Senator Professor Ben Ayade and the Director General of the state Primary Healthcare Agency, Dr Janet Ekpenyong for developing a template for other states to copy.

On her part, the Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Janet Ekpenyong
thanked the Governor and the visiting team, while also assuring Cross Riverians of the PHCs commitment to meet the health needs of the people especially in hard to reach areas.

"I must appreciate you all for the encouragement and thank the Governor, His Excellency, Senator Professor Ben Ayade for always being at the forefront of various health matters, presently, my foot soldiers are everywhere, climbing hills and descending valleys to create awareness on the various symptoms of Covid-19, everyone in the grassroot can boldly tell you about the various preventive measures and how to take care of patients showing signs of infection. We have also distributed personal protective equipment like hand sanitizers, facemasks, buckets to our facilities and our people through the support of our pragmatic Governor, Senator Professor Ben Ayade.

I am Proud to say that all our services including Immunization, Ante-natal,Tuberculosis, nutrition and other services are currently being accessed by patients  in all PHCs in the 196 wards across the state".

The visit also had the Commissioner for Health, Dr Betta Edu, the Commissioner for finance, DG State Action for the Control of AIDS, Dr Echeri Ansa and other stakeholders in the health sector.
