DR BETTA EDU ASSURES HELLO MAMA OF CRS COMMITMENT TO REDUCTION OF MATERNAL MORTALITY & PROJECT SUSTAINABILITY.

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded Jhpiego-MCSP/Pathfinder International Hello Mama project have marked her successful conclusion of 3 years pilot project in Cross River State which started in October 2015.

In doing so, it transitions process was communicated to the Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency,  Dr Betta Edu by the HelloMama Project Director, Emmanuel Atuma during a courtesy visit to marked the notification of final project close-out in December 2018.

Speaking, Director General of CRSPHCDA, Dr Betta Edu expressed gratitude for the great work done in Cross River and assured them of the states commitment to sustainability.

Dr Edu said the program has educated and supported pregnant women and new mothers through their pregnancy and child development. It has improved material knowledge and adoption of healthy and safe maternal newborn and child health practices amongst women and their families.

She said with their support, the state has recorded significant success in saving the lives of mothers and their babies." the text messages received by pregnant women was a great reminder of their next antenatal visits, expected delivery dates,  support available at our facilities for their safe delivery and even the care and immunisation to be given to their babies. Messages on importance of breast feeding and other health tips were disseminated through this medium.

Earlier Speaking, Project Director, Emmanuel  Atuma said the organisation made some significant strides in its implementation irrespective of some challenges.

According to him over 26,000 Pregnant women and gatekeeper are benefiting from hellomama messages in Cross River State, while over 7000 pregnant women have successfully gone through the hellomama messages from pregnancy to one year of child life in state. 

He also noted that 145 health care workers trained on mobile registration, data collection reporting in the State with systematic and efficient reporting tool, control interface and re-dash tracking registration, message deliveries and project indicators to aid informed decisions on project implementation and improvement.

According to him several success stories of the impact of hellomama on pregnant women, their families as well as health workers have been captured and made into a picture and video documentary to be share with state. 

The project will officially come to an end this December,  2018 and the Cross River Government under the proactive Health interested Governor Ben Ayade has promised to sustain it.
