Poor maintenance culture of PHC facilities in Calabar Metropolis, DG call for behavioral change of PHC workers.

Dr.Beta Edu is worried over the poor maintenance culture of healthcare facilities and services rendered in some primary healthcare centres across the State.

The Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Betta Edu on Tuesday being 30th July 2018 embarked on an integrated supportive supervision and inspection of Primary Healthcare facilities in remote areas of Calabar Municipal.

Speaking,  Dr Betta Edu congratulated Governor Ben Ayade for emerging as the best  health pro governor of the southern part of Nigeria while affirming strongly that the effort of the frontline health workers made it possible. She noted that the Governor, his wife, Dr Linda Ayade, the Commissioner for Health and the entire health team have been putting in effort to see that progress is made in Cross River health sector.

According to her, Cross River has won for the region but we want to win for the whole country as the  best most improved healthcare State in the country.

She said for that to materialise primary healthcare workers on the field must be at their best  and ensure that facilities are kept in good conditions to offer quality health services to people as there come through our doors.

Dr Edu said following the inclusion of basic healthcare funding in the 2018 budget, the State is hopeful that Federal Governnent will release the fund and for the first time, direct facility funding will begin with monies being transfered directly from CBN to health facilities for development of healthcare.

She assured Cross Riverians that Governor Ben Ayade will continue to take their health seriously by ensuring all Primary healthcare centres are functional and can offer quality healthcare services to the people when needed.

One of the community leader,  Mr Stanley Edet Esq thanked the DG for coming around and wishes the State Governor,  Senator (Prof)  Ben Ayade to stay more than 200 years as the Governor of Cross River State for his giant stride in the healthcare and his life improving projects for the people of the state.

Dr Edu who went round some PHCs in Calabar Municipality was unimpressed with their maintenance culture and inflow of clients except at Primary Healthcare Centre Nsemo where she commended the incharge for her commitment.

She observed in some facilities that only two workers were on duty which according to her is the catalyst for drop of client flow. She said minimum of staff on duty should be four staff instead of two which is poor for standard services. She urged them to change as the facility cannot continue to be unkept and tattered.

Primary Health Centres visited were PHC Nyahasang, PHC Akim and PHC Nsemo, PHC borrow pit, PHC Bacoko Nasarawa PHC ikot omin, more facilities will be visited on soon.
