Covid-19: C’River Speaker Urges Nigerians to be Closer To God at Easter

The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams, has urged Nigerians and Cross Riverians in particular to continue to pray for the country and be closer to God amidst the rampaging Covid-19 pandemic.

The Speaker made this appeal in his Easter message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Hope Obeten, and made available to newsmen in Calabar.

Williams said that the circumstances of the celebration this year’s Easter are peculiar, noting that like never before the world is bound together to deal with unprecedented adversity.

“Easter is all about the trial, crucifixion, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is a time for sober reflection.

“However, we are celebrating this year’s Easter in very challenging circumstances occasioned by the outbreak and fast-spread of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic globally.

“But as children of the Living God, we should not despair, let us be prayerful and look up to the Author and Finisher of our Faith.

This current dark hour across the globe will give way to light,” the Speaker said.

“I want to commend our dear Governor for his relentless efforts in this trying period. He has been able to keep Cross River State Covid-19 free despite our neighbouring states recording cases. His novel policy of no mask no movement is today being copied in most states and countries,” he said.

The Speaker assured that the State Assembly will continue to provide legislative backing to support and improve the efforts of the Government in this trying period and beyond.

He also used the opportunity to commend the efforts of all the health workers and stakeholders who are at the frontline for God to protect them.

”Once again, On behalf of the leadership and members of the Cross River State House of Assembly, I wish us a Happy Easter, I urge us to strictly observe and adhere to instructions given by the state government on use of face mask, regular hand washing with soap, use of hand sanitiser and social distancing to curtail any eventuality.” he added.
