Esu Restates Govt Commitment To A Healthy Citizenry



Cross River Deputy Governor, Prof. Ivara Esu has restated State Government's commitment to ensure good health for all Cross Riverians.

The Deputy Governor made this remark when he officially Flagged off the second phase of National Immunization Plus Days yesterday, 1 July, 2018 at the Assemblies of God Church, Nelson Mandela Street, Calabar.

Flagging off the project, the Deputy Governor stated that Cross River State Government had already mobilized 7,588 health workers to ensure the success of the exercise across the 18 Local Government Areas of the State with a target of 808,470 children across the state for second round of the 2018 National Minimization Plus Days.

The DG of Primary Health Care, Dr. Betta said that they need 100 percent coverage of this four days Immunisation across the state. That the first phase covered 98 percent.

" Our dreams in 2019 is to see  Nigeria and Cross River State as a free and certified polio free Nation".- Betta Edu.

Also speaking the Commissioner for Health, on her part added that mothers should ensure their children are vaccinated to enable them not to have childhood diseases.

If the 100 percent vaccination is achieved in this four days, Cross River State will continue to maintain it standard with the United Nations International Children Emergency fund as the state with the best child survival indices in Nigeria- She added.

Parents and guardians are expected to make their children available for polio vaccination and other health care programmes for pregnant and care givers- Inyang Asibong.

During the flag off exercise the Deputy Governor Ivara Esu stated clearly that polio vaccines are safe and free; the Governor of Cross River State Prof. Ben Ayade had paid for everything and every child in Cross River even those in IDP camps should not pay for any vaccines.

Ayade led Administration vision is to ensure they is a zero polio disease in the state. He added.

Ivara Esu call on parents to bring their children out from their home's to benefit from the exercise.

At the flag off exercise the following dignitaries were there to grease the event, Dr. John Igbu, World Health Rep, Sir Ephraim C. UNICEF Rep, Rev. Dr. Joseph Ajor, Pastor in charge of AG Nelson Mandela, Mrs. Christiana Elemi HOLGA Calabar South, Mrs. Regina Udobong Rotary International Rep, Hon. Ekpo Bassey, House Committee Chairman on Health and others.
