By Blessing Enagu
The Commissioner for Climate Change and Forestry, Ntufam Donatus Etim has assured the Mbuboi Village Council of Ekinta Clan in Akampka Local Government Area of prompt communication to Lafarge Africa, manufacturers of UNICEM Cement, to present the list of critical landlord communities within the Company's operational area.
Giving the assurance in his Ministry’s Conference Room, when he received in audience, Members of the Council, Ntufam Etim said the Ministry shall within two weeks, send a formal correspondence which would include a gazette, to Lafarge indicating that Mbuboi is one of the company's critical landlord communities.
He commended the Council for having the interest of the Community at heart and informed that the Ministry would play an unbiased role, while upholding the principle of equity, fairness and justice.
Earlier in his appeal, the Council's spokesperson, Prof. Ayuk Essoka called on the Ministry to wade into their concern in order for the community to benefit duly from the corporate social responsibility of the Lafarge Africa.
According to him, it was pertinent to refer to the Forestry Commission because the Reserve was acquired by the Commission before it was de-reserved and made a mining area for Lafarge, adding that the Commission had a better understanding of the equity contributions of each of the landlord communities within the gazetted area.
Present also were the village head, His Highness Ntufam Richard Ayuk, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Timothy Akwaji and Directors of the Ministry.
