There is no gainsaying treatment for children living with cancer poses huge financial and emotional challenges to families and the healthcare system in Nigeria.
This is so, because they often present too late for effective treatment, it usually portends prolonged hospital stay, varied invasive and non-invasive investigations for diagnosis, unavailability of hi-tech diagnostic facilities in many centers in resource-poor nations, therapeutic issues like unavailability of needed chemotherapy, and where available, high cost and non-affordability by most patients.
This is a Story of 3 years old Nkanu Hurbert Okoi who was recently diagnosed of Nephroblastoma (Cancer of the Kidney).
Little Miss Herbert was said to has developed this ailments 20 months ago with no or little resources by the parents to take her for medical examination and identified the sickness.
According to the father of the child, Mr Okoi Nkanu Hurbert was born medically fit and sound not until the last 20 months when she started developing the ailment from the preliminary scan at Asi Ukpo Medical Center.
For us in the family, we didn't have money to immediately pursue medical examination and scan not until we saw a Bill Board with inscription AYADE HOME HEALTH SERVICES.
I dailled the doctors number and within a tickle of seconds a Doctor by name, Genevieve Barnaby answered and listen to my appeal for Cross River State Government to come and salvage the little child life by assisting the family with the required money for the surgery. As demanded my request was obliged and today the Government of Cross River State under the stewardship of Senator (Prof) Ben Ayade Home Healthcare Services have taken lead in the process of raising the require amount of money for the treatment.
Thanking God for what he has done to the live of little Hubert who is surgery bound, Mrs Gladys Okoi Nkanu reflected how her child stomach started growing big, and his weight loss became more apparent. According to her she was really worried before Computed Tomography scan also known as CT scan was done on the child.
"There it was, Nephroblastoma – kidney cancer with metastasis to the lungs says the mother.
CEO of Vital Signs and Ayadecare Home Health Services, Dr Genevieve Barnaby call on all meaningful Nigerians to come to the rescue of the child by donating something for the surgical operations and treatment.
According to her the journey to save the child from the crazy, horrific, and life threatening ailment as begun with the admission of the child at University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH).
She noted that the child needs 900,000 Naira only to survived.

Meanwhile a Haematologist in UCTH Dr Gabriel Nsor said the child will first undergo a six week chemotherapy course before surgery and afterward undergo another 15 weeks of Chemotherapy. He noted that the child is in good health awaiting surgery.
