CRSWBL AG. MD CHARGE NEWLY APPOINTED GENERAL MANAGERS ON SERVICE DELIVERY
By Uchino Amatey
Following the State Government's approval to decentralise operations of Cross River State Water Board Limited (CRSWBL) and the recent appointment of General Managers, the Acting Managing Director CRSWBL, Dr Stephen Odey has charged the new appointees on effective service delivery.
He gave this charge during a briefing of the newly appointed General Managers on their expected roles in the Conference room of the Board, pending when they will be inaugurated by the Governor.
Dr Odey who congratulated them on their appointment, charged them to live up to responsibilities and show commitment to duty in order to surmount challenges.
According to him "These appointments are not about money making, they are about service and making a name in your community. The basic thing here is about commitment to service. Water Board is a very critical and challenging area, you must be willing to show commitment and drive the process. Now that the Board has been decentralised it is meant to be self sustaining, if you produce water, people will be willing to pay the bills and with that you can have funds to run the place," He emphasized.
He stated that the reason for the decentralisation was to ensure a smooth and effective running of the Board in order to achieve its primary objective of ensuring stable water supply in the State.
He added that the decision to appoint this crop of general managers was based on their integrity and wealth of experience.
"The Governor personally carried out an assessment of all of you. You were carefully selected because he believes that you can use your wealth of experience to achieve results and that is why you are chosen from your various LGAs, so that if you fail to give your people water, then the blame will be on you and not the governor this time," he said.
Dr Odey appealed to them to always protect the interest of the Governor and not betray the trust governor Ayade has reposed on them by failing in their responsibilities. "You cannot run down your principal when you have a role to play, you should at your various levels be the representative of the Governor. Basically what we are here to do is to make sure that there is water in cross river state, So you are here to support this administration by ensuring that there is regular water supply. "
He urged them go back to their respective stations and liaise with existing staff to identify peculiar challenges and generate possible solutions which he said will be presented to the Governor to ensure a smooth take off.
While calling on them to be proactive, the Acting M.D advised them against becoming "arm-chair managers." He urged them to carry out routine checks in order to get first hand information and not rely on reports from staff which may not be accurate.
In a vote of thanks, the General Manager, Calabar Water Station, Barr. Bassey Mensah expressed gratitude to Governor Ayade for bestowing on them the mandate to serve. He assured of their total commitment in delivering their primary objective of ensuring stable water supply in the state.
"On behalf of my colleagues, I want to thank our Digital Governor and the acting M.D for deeming it fit to give us this appointment. We are delighted, we will do our very best, and we would not let you or His Excellency down. It is a challenge, but we are going to ensure that we live up to expectation," He emphasized.
