Youths across the length and breadth of Cross River State and Nigeria at large have converged at the Calabar International Conference Centre for 2018 conference of Young and emerging Political Leaders Forum.
Cross River state Governor who was ably represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Asu Okang in his goodwill message, thanked the convener for coming up with such novelty and challenging/ interactive programme like this.
He charges young people to take active participation in leadership positions. " I am the most youthful friendly Governor in Nigeria, I believe in young people and they have proven to be capable hands.
The Convener of the forum, Peter MacDonald Ayamgbe in his opening speech said, the conference aims at bringing together all young and emerging political leaders across Nigeria.
He applauded the Governor of Cross River state for appointing young Cross Riverians into his cabinet and charges young people to seek elective political offices because no politician in Nigeria would ordinarily relinquished power to youths except they go for it.
The forum which drew political bigwigs and notable activists in Nigeria had the presence of the Honourable Minister for Niger Delta Development Commission, Hon. Pastor Usani Uguru Usani, the Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator John Owan Enoh, the Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Gaul Lebo, Boki state Constituency Representative, Hon. Hilary Bisong, the Director General of Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Betta Edu, Charles Oputa aka Charley Boy amongst others.
Dr Betta Edu who was among the panelists that tackled issues and questions raised, charged women to wake up from sleep and work hard to impact the world around them. Get involved in politics and push for your goals- She added.
According to her the greatest problem of the youth are the youths. The capacity to build the future of Cross River State and Nigeria lies in the youth!
The DG attributed good leadership to competence, capacity, character and urges people to cultivate these attributes to lead well.
The conference climaxed in presentation of Mary Slessor Awards for Excellence to Dr Betta Edu for excelling in leadership position.
She also bags Friends of Comedy Recognition Award from comedians in the state.
Dr Betta Edu while receiving the awards, thanked the organizer and convener of the conference for finding her worthy to be honoured with Mary Slessor Award for Excellence and also being recognized by comedians in the state. Other awardees were Justina Ovat, Obeten, Effiom, Stanley Nsemo, Agba jalingo amongst others.
