As the news of the dreaded disease Ebola has returned to D.R Congo, and Nigeria struggles hard to kick polio out of the country, The director General of Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr Betta Edu has called on all cross Riverians to be alert and do all within their might to prevent this diseases.
She made this know as she visited some creeks and villages bordering Cameroon. She said people should avoid close proximity with animals in the bush. " last week a hunter in Boki was escorted home by a life monkey or chimpanzee and the entire village came to play with it. This is completely wrong. These animals could be a source of spread of dreaded diseases"
There was also report of sick persons with high fever brought in from Cameroon to bakassi. " these are the things we should watch out for and report immediately to the health worker who knows where to notify. For all we care Congo is close to Cameroon and we border Cameroon on so many fronts, We need every one to wake up and be vigilant"
The DG held meeting with the port authorities, military men and and DSNO, as well as other health workers to step up surveillance and get more proactive. She used same medium to address some communities noting that our health system is fragile in the country and might not stand the shock of Ebola. If you see some thing please say something.
Remember these tips: Wash your hands always
Avoid bush meat, raw meat, poorly cooked meat
Avoid contact with monkeys and chimpanzees.
If you suspect anyone with high fever, muscle pain, blood coming out of ear nose or mouth, Please inform the nearest health worker.
