ARCHIBONG PLEDGES SUPPORT TO NAIIS FOR EFFECTIVE HIV/AIDS ADVOCACY

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Effiom Archibong has expressed her Ministry's readiness to support the Federal Ministry of Health in advocacy on the Nigeria AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS) programme.



Mrs. Archibong stated this during a recent advocacy visit of the NAIIS team on her in the Conference Room of the Ministry.


The Information and Orientation Boss also expressed hope that the Federal Ministry of Health's collaboration with the University of Maryland, Baltimore – USA in the survey will yield positive outcomes towards the eradication of the HIV/AIDS scourge in Africa.


She further pointed out that bodies outlined to be visited by the team such as Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), traditional institutions, Nigeria Union of Journalist, Road Transport Workers, etc are key areas for the advocacy information.


The Commissioner called for the inclusion of her Ministry in tailoring media messages for the Cross River public, which she maintained, will make for strategic and effective communication.


She assured the team that the Governor Ben Ayade-led administration places high premium on the health and wellbeing of Cross Riverians, which has been exemplified by the introduction of the Cross River State Health Insurance Scheme (AYADECARE), Ayade Home Care Service and the creation of the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency (CRSPHCDA), adding that the State will be conducive for the success of their work.


In his remarks, representative of the Federal Ministry of Health, Mr. Salif Audu stated that the Nigeria AIDS Indicator and Impact Survey is the first of its kind in Africa, pointing out that Cross River is among the first 18 States to kick off the programme in June, 2018.


Audu said the input of the Ministry of Information and Orientation, under the leadership of Mrs. Archibong will be paramount for the success implementation of the survey in Cross River and beyond.



Also speaking, the Coordinator, HIV/AIDS & STIs Programme, State Ministry of Health, Mr. Patrick Mgbe said the essence of the survey is to enable every Nigerian know their HIV status and get the ones that are positive to be treated.



Mr. Mgbe stated that the visit was to get the Ministry of Information and Orientation involved as a baseline of information in the State.
