The State Government has advised farmers in the State to take advantage of the one-crop-one-product programme of the federal government to expand their productivity. The advice was given by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Effiom Archibong in response to issues raised on the zero-crude oil policy of the Federal Government during the quarterly meeting of the State Committee on Export Promotion, held recently in Calabar. Mrs. Archibong who lauded the zero-crude oil policy of the Federal Government, pointed out that implementation is key to the success of the programme which is aimed at diversifying revenue base of government. The Information and Orientation boss who expressed readiness to step-up awareness on the programme using all media platforms, called on farmers in the State to utilize the enormous credit facilities available at Nexim Bank and Bank of Commerce and Industry for farmers to expand agro-based products, especially Rice and Cocoa so as to meet the export target of the State. Archibong further disclosed that the State Government under the leadership of Senator (Prof.) Ben Ayade has radically launched the state into green economy with emphasis on the cultivation of crops such as cocoa, rice, cotton, banana, cassava, etc, with a view to increase output. She therefore enjoined farmers and Cross Riverians at large to take advantage of the diverse agricultural credit facilities available to them through the afore-mentioned banks to increase yield and improve revenue generation. It will be recalled that in 2016, the Federal Government introduced a one-State-one-crop-production programme to diversify revenue generation, de-couple the Nation from over-dependence on crude oil and encourage States to boost their revenue through export of agricultural produce; for Cross River State, the crops chosen for this Federal intervention are Cocoa and Rice.
