RICKETTS, 16 OTHERS ELECTED INTO NIPR COUNCIL
A former Cross River State Commissioner for Information under Governor Liyel Imoke led administration, Chief Akinwumi Anderson Ricketts and sixteen other Public Relations Practitioners across Nigeria have been elected into the Governing Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to pilot the affairs of the Institute in the next 2 years.
The seventeen elected Governing Council members of the Institute emerged after a keenly contested free and fair elections conducted by the Chief Casca Ogosu led NIPR Electoral Committee at the just concluded Annual General Meeting and National Conference of the Institute held at the International Conference Centre Umuahia, Abia State.
The Institute's election also saw the emergence of Alhaji Mukhtar Sirajo as the new President and Chairmen of NIPR Governing Council and Comptroller Adewale Adeniyi as Vice President and Vice Chairman of NIPR Governing Council.
The new NIPR leadership takes over from the Dr. Rotimi Oladele led Council whose tenure elapsed in April 2018.
Speaking on his victory at the NIPR election in Umuahia, Chief Akinwumi Ricketts thanked Public Relations Practitioners in the country, particularly those in Cross River State Chapter of the Institute for their relentless support, before, during and after the elections, assuring that he will leverage on the platform to sell Cross River State brand and promote the professionalization of Public Relations practice in general.
The election of Chief Ricketts, who is the Obol Nkama 1 of Ugep, Yakurr Local Government area of Cross River State into the NIPR Governing Council is coming a decade after Chief Obo Mesembe Edet was elected into the Council from the State.
Other highlights of the Annual General Meeting and National Conference which took place between April 25 – 28, 2018 included presentation of 2017 Annual Reports, Financial Accounts and award of fellows to some distinguished members of the Institute who were found worthy in academic and character among whom is the immediate past Chairman of the Cross River State Chapter of NIPR Obongawan Princess Obo Mesembe Edet.
The AGMI/Conference drew participants from the thirty six States and FCT Chapters of the Institute as well as non members of the profession.
The 2018 Annual General Meeting/National Conference of the Institute had as its theme "Sustainable Development in a fragile Economy: the Public Relations perspective".
