Reconsider Peace Corps on the Premise of Policing Rather than paying Deaf Ears--Donald Duke
Cross River State Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria, Patriot Dr. Okweche Dominic has led a delegation on a courtesy visit to the former Governor of Cross River State His excellency Mr. Donald Duke.
Mr. Donald has in 2003 while in office, created a smooth ground for the operation of Peace Corps in the State. He was delighted that his good works could still be remembered after leaving Office 11years ago.
His Excellency pointed that, Policing and neighborhood watch as cardinal objectives of Peace Corps would go a long way in assisting our country Nigeria to fight crime.
He said, the Government would have looked keenly into the activities of Peace Corps and consider it on the premise of policing rather than paying deaf ears.
He further added that in a country with a population of about 200 Million and with the Nigerian Police Force to be operating with a strength of about Three Hundred Thousand Staff only is grossly inadequate to produce the needed serene environment we look for.
It is important that Peace Corps comes in not only to serve as employment opportunities for Nigerians but to help in information gathering for the conventional security operatives, therefore making them proactive in the sustenance of our Democratic system.
The Commandant who extended the high esteem of the National Commandant Amb. Dr. Dickson Akoh to His Excellency also thanked him for the opportunity granted the Corps.
