DEMOCRACY DAY: AYADE TASKS LEADERS TO FOCUS ON THE PEOPLE

By David Ejishie

In the spirit of Democracy Day Celebration, Cross River Governor, Sen. Ben Ayade has called on politicians to focus more on the people.

The Governor made the call tuesday, in Calabar, during the Democracy Day Celebration in the State.

Prof. Ayade, stressed the need for politicians to open the horizon by empowering people in order to check the level of turbulence associated with electioneering periods.

He said it was to this end that he focused on the expansion of Government as his first term policy, while providing food on the table for all.

Ayade noted that the choice of expanding government is a deliberate plan to reduce social tension, the temperature of the political heat that was building up in the State, and also to ensure that young people are not left idle.

According to Ayade, "If leaders focus on the masses and the development of their communities, it will go a long way in reducing the conflicts currently being experienced in some parts of the country".

He noted that despite having one of the most bloated governments in Africa with over 4000 appointees and with one of the lowest federal allocation in the country, his administration is using the power of intellect with dedication to serve, to run the State, while also embarking on gigantic projects, as well as prompt payment of salaries to civil servants
On the upcoming elections, the Governor stated that he expects to see more finesse and more educated people in politics and better character, noting that it is not normal to witness tension in every election.

Prior to the Democracy Day Celebration in the State, Governor Ayade had on Monday announced the immediate employment of additional 1000 staff into the State's Garment factory as part of his commitment towards celebrating the Democracy Day.

Cross River Commissioner for Information and Orientation Mrs. RoseMary Archibong in an interview, remarked that the third year anniversary of the Prof Ben Ayade's administration was worth celebrating as the Governor had turned the state into an industrial hub.

She noted that Cross Riverians have started to enjoy the dividends of democracy as seen in the current massive infrastructural build-out in the state, adding that the Governor has indeed brought governance closer to the people.

Highpoint of the event was the cutting of the Democracy Cake by the Governor Sen. Ben Ayade, jointly supported by his wife Dr. Linda Ayade and the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mrs. RoseMary Archibong.

The event marking the celebration in the State, saw various groups including men, women, students, workers youths who defiled the rain, as they joyfully drove round the capital city in a motorcade, chanting songs of solidarity for Ayade and his team for transforming their lives as evident in the long term projects spread across the three senatorial districts of the State.
